That brownells smyth busters series is terrible. They just ramble about their opinions and say busted or confirmed at the end. With a name like smyth busters I was hoping they’d actually test stuff.

most of their explanations are just “it’s always been there/that way, so why change it?”

Sorry to hear, I've had nothing but outstanding performance out of my Aero rifles. @gixxerphil is a big Aero fan as well.

    What was wrong with it?

Well, a society not on TW. There are some trends and fans of rather weird things here, that wouldn’t fly in real life, or even on a designated gun forum.

Interesting. I'm ready to pull the trigger on an EPC build and have only read good things.

I've built 10+ AR's out of Aero stuff, along with 2 EPC-9's. The EPC's were exactly the same except the one I kept got an Elftmann trigger(other was built for one of my docs with CMC trigger). He has run probably 1000rds through his already and says it's his favorite 9mm PCC(he's got a MCX and 4 others). I ran Faxon BCG/barrels though. I hope that Matt's shitty situation is a rarity. It sucks he had a horrible experience with them.

I also have an Aero AR10 I'm building, just hope the BA barrel/BCG(I know Aero barrels are made by BA) doesn't give me the problems Matt had

You may have just settled something for me. I was looking at the 5.5" BA barrel and BA BCG! I can actually find those in stock and 20% off aint bad.

I ran Faxon in the EPC's. BA barrels with Aero BCG are in my AR platforms

To clarify it's not so much the unreliability that pissed me off. I gambled i tried to build a "just as good" ar10. That gamble failed kinda.

What really pissed me off was given the opportunity to fix an issue and create a happy customer they basically told me to F off and pound sand. I'd rather not give my money to companies like that.

Now if this criterion barrel works reliably solves the issue and comes with improved accuracy I'll be a happy camper with my rifle and even with the extra cost of the replacement barrel end up with a solid rifle for a good price(at the expense of lots of frustration) but still say F Aero for how they handled this.

I'm a huge Aero fan, but I understand your complaint. I've had good dealings with Aero, they have gone out of their way to fix a problem I had with FedEx(I tried with FedEx, but they told me to contact the company I bought from).

But did they not test the rifle to the extent that they actually found fault with the BCg and sent it back to you with a new one?

And that new bcg wasn't releasing from the chamber and they told me to pound sand after sending video of not being able to pull back the bolt

Is the BCG oiled? I’ve bought ARs before that we’re bone dry and would have FTFs. Pulled the bolt out, oiled it and it ran like a sewing machine afterwards.

Decided to get a couple of build kits to build “sit in the safe rifles” so I have a couple extras.

Now I need to see what primary arms has on sale for optics to top them off.
