All a big 1000 lumen light strapped to your barrel does is give a perp something to shoot at. But they're super mall ninja.....

For me, I don't put them on everything. I try to keep things pretty simple and uncluttered so usually just optic, sling, and light. I don't count a verticle grip. Anything I may have to run outside at night with because of bears or coyotes gets a light though just in case. Am I right or wrong :notsure: but it works for me so far. Have I needed one yet? no, thankfully.

Well I asked the question about lights and I sincerely appreciate everyones responses. I will admit I am a bit more confused now about what is best for me to get and alot of these are kinda Ford/ Chevy conversations but all good input. I'm just looking for something dependable yet reasonably priced.

I only ran one on my DMR....Night/Hog AR...it is an old Surefire M951 that is converted to Green LED. I am sure most of you know how heavy they are.

Gun Lights are just too heavy...but since I discovered those Ebay 1 Cell Surefire knockoffs...they are so tiny and don't weight anything, I don't even notice them...so why not. (I don't have them on all my ARs). I have to admit I rarely use them on my UMP and AR SBR, so they are a "nice to have just in case" for those 2

    Yeah.
I thought the same thing. I have lights on the 2 bump-in-the-night AR pistols with pressure pads, seemed the most functional to me. You can illuminate and go dark quickly when needed, and they are very maneuverable. But my full-length rifle is a lightweight build with minimal extra crap on it. If I was doing night shooting I'd probably be looking at a thermal scope. But building cool guns is a hobby for many, me included, and it's cool to see what you can come up with. I apparently don't have the hobby budget that many of you have, lol, so it's cool seeing what you come up with!

I have lights on several guns because I have coyotes

I have lights on several handguns because I need my other hand to restrain my dog until necessary

I also have a large flashlight I can grab but I don’t have kids who may be sneaking in/out and it’s easy to figure out if my wife is in the room with me or if the noise is possibly her

Lights on defensive guns. Don't run lights on my long range or precision rifles

Outdoor range I'm going to be joining stays open until 10pm so will be doing some more low light shooting out there as training.

I appreciate all the constructive responses. Night time predator/varmit control makes perfect sense and hadn’t crossed my mind.

Pretty much any gun that I have as a “serious use” gun has a light on it, I like it because options are good, even in daylight you might want/need a light.

I also try to have at least one night shoot per month.

Does your old Surefire look like this one? I bought it as a hand held years ago and still works great so I strapped it to this rifle.

That's abut where I'm at. The girls are grown and gone and know better than to pop in at night. When they lived at home everything stayed locked up but now just my wife and I one is kept beside the bed.

Bears tear up my bird feeders, rip apart my trash cans, and generally tear stuff up. I go out and run them off the gun is only in case of one getting agressive which hasn't happenned yet but why chance it.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I was thinking more about home defense when I set mine up, but I've actually only used it to figure out what the dogs were going nuts about in the back yard (whatever it was must have made it out when I distracted the dogs). I've just got cheap Feyachis on mine, but those aren't expensive builds.

I'd like to build another and have a lower, just haven't figured out what I want to build this time. Well, I know what I WANT to build, it just requires a lot of paperwork and waiting.

I have Feyachis. The tail cap for the pressure pad on the one went bad but it's the only problem I have had. The one on the 9mm pcc is a feyachi but kinda like a Inforce knockoff and works great. So far.

No, mine is a M951 (pre-LED)...but I was able to find a Green LED/Refector for it.

1000 lumens pointed at your face, you are blind and shooting blind while the one behind the light isn't....Sure you can get shot off towards the light once you get your bearings back but I'd be willing to bet the one shining the light will get more accurate shots off first.

@JimBeam I have a ffl transfer question. If a private party ships you a stripped lower, and the buyer comes to pick it up from you as a transfer, do you always transfer it as "other" and not a pistol or rifle?
And if someone sent you a rifle lower with a stock, could you transfer that to the buyer as "other"?
Or if they send you a complete lower minus a stock, not knowing if it was a rifle or pistol or other lower originally, would you transfer it to the buyer as "other"?

I ask b/c my understanding is if the lower was a factory rifle, it can't be used to build a pistol. But if an ffl receives it not knowing it was a factory rifle and transfers it as other, it can now be built into a pistol?
