Completely missing the point, which is that it's pretty universally accepted that this falls well within legal interpretation of the law, especially considering there's already specified classifications of what constitutes an AOW.

What's the point of having rights if you're too afraid to exercise them?

Simply reinforcing my point that laws either mean something or they don't. Why be afraid of posting something that by the ATF's own guidelines is legal? By that logic nobody here should post pictures of their AR pistols with braces either. Might as well nuke the whole forum while we're at it.

    That's a little hyperbolic.

    But pistol braces do suck.

I think the most fuzzy area with the 26" over all length is where do you measure from? I've read multiple letters from the ATF online that the measurements start at the end of the buffer tube and not the extended brace b/c the brace can be removed. Same reason on why the muzzle device isn't part of the over all length measurement unless it's pinned and welded.

Just SBR it and you don't have to measure shit. I got rid of the few pistols I had to not deal with whatever shenanigans they pull out of their ass this year. It's stupid.

Eh SBR isn’t the best option for everyone. I live on the state line working in one state while living in the other. If I SBR my braced pistols I couldn’t easily bring them with me to go shooting after work. Not to mention a lot of my favorite shooting spots are also across the state line.

It all depends on your situation.

Agreed. I have an SBR lower and a pistol lower for this exact reason. Every year I do the paperwork to take my SBR to locations in other states that I frequent but a lot of the time I just swap the upper over to the pistol lower so I don't have to worry about taking paperwork, etc. with me or risk getting a cop who doesn't know what the hell they're looking at.

Tube has nothing to do with OAL unless the brace is removed. It's 26" from tip of barrel or pinned/welded muzzle device to end of brace fully extended, or end of the hinge if you're using a Law Folder. Mine is just over 29" fully retracted, and just under 29" without the brace, so well within the clear.

Exactly. For people like me that travel a lot with guns, it makes more sense to keep it as a pistol so I don't have to deal with all the cross-state funkiness.

Good to know. Guess the letter I always used as a reference was out dated.

The statement I posted was from a field office agent, so who knows? It's not uncommon for them to get confused by, or misunderstand their own regulations. I always measure from a fully retracted position anyway just to be safe, and I'm still a good 3" over.

Which requires filing with the ATF in advance and waiting for approval, which is a hassle when you're just trying to go out of town for a weekend trip. Is using a brace really that difficult? I don't see what your issue is.
