Actually, just a "firearm" if it's over 26" with a shorter than 16" barrel and no stock. It's a legal loophole. I don't do it just cuz I may beat the rap but not the ride.

It's as much of a loophole as using a brace, so pretty well-established by now. Until the ATF releases a clarified statement saying it's restricted with a court ruling upholding their interpretation, the law is on the side of gun owners. Granted that really amounts to fuck all as far as the ATF is concerned, but it's not something I'm going to live in fear of either.

 

Agreed, a brace is one thing, you can absolutely tell at a glance that it's a pistol, which means no VFG. Put a VFG on it, and out come the measuring tapes

 

This is how we have to run ARs in CT, you check off "other" on the transfer form. Not an AOW because of overall length, not rifle with a brace/plane buffer tube, not a pistol because the front grip means it meant to be fired with 2 hands, not shotgun because it not meant to fire shot. So any law that starts with "any rifle/pistol/shotgun" which all the exclusions in the ct assault weapons ban do, does not apply to them.

 

Yeah, idk if you've ever seen any of the ATF flowchart memes, but their system of regulations is completely ass-backwards fucked in the head.

 

I personally think the ATF has better things to do than poke law abiding citizens with a stick.

Its not really there fault, the problem is the people writing the laws that the atf are supposed to enforce don't have even the foggiest idea of how and why firearms work, and you end up with abominations like the CT other ARs.

 

No the ATF has a very longstanding history of abusing their authority, and pulling interpretations from the nether regions of their anus to restrict otherwise lawful firearms, parts, imports, etc. They rightfully deserve all the hate they get.

 

Except that the ATF expands on those laws with additional stupidity.

 

For the fact that the 2A is the only amendment that “shall not be infringed” the ATF is arguably unconstitutional.

Even their original existence is shady to collect taxes on things like Tobacco, alcohol and NFA firearms. They DID stem from the IRS…

 

Yup they do indeed, but if the laws were better written, with little or no grey areas or loop holes, the atf wouldn't have any ground to stand on when they overreached. Like say speed limits, the speed limit is 50 mph in a spot. What if the speed limit was different for different types on vehicles or vehicles with different features. Now the cop writing the ticket can say a vehicle has or doesn't have the criteria needed to drive a certain speed. And then you have a bunch of other people moding there cars the meet the requirement to go faster legally. It would be a huge mess.

 

I won't deny a lot of laws are poorly written, but I also think you're giving the ATF too much credit.

I don't think they exist for any purpose except to advance the gun control agenda, and use their discretion to interpret laws not in favor of American rights, but their restriction.
