You have a flip-up sight and a 2-piece drop in rail? Where is the sight, on the gas block perhaps? I wouldn't get a drop in rail, I'd stick with cheap MOE handguards or get a true freefloat handguard. You absolutely want a free float rail if you're going to attach a flip up sight to the rail itself - a two-piece is going to shift around a little bit as you put torque on it with a sling or strong grip even.

it is a two piece flipup sight/gas block. im using a cheapo MOE now. will that sight/gas block work even with a two piece handguard?

I see, I was confused. Technically, what you have is a railed gas block and you've attached a gas-block-height folding front sight to it. Most 2-piece handguards will work, as long as they're the same length as your original rails. Most 2-piece handguards like the MOE handguards, original m4 handguards, DPMS glacierguards, etc. interface with the handguard cap that's already on your gun. the rail will end at the handguard cap just like your handguards do today.

And don't discount the MOE too much, it's a nice 2-piece setup. I'd much rather run a MOE than some of the crappy 2-piece rails out there like the stuff UTG makes.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
They don't have to be (depending on what you think is expensive). I built mine for around $650 from palmetto state and it has some of the bells and whistles (chrome lined barrel, cold hammer forged barrel, etc.).

midwest industries makes some great drop-in rails... that's what i've got on my ARs.... free floated foreends don't help w/ long range sighting if you're going to use iron sights because the FSB (i.e. front sight) is attached to the barrel anyway... the free float thing seems to be a bit of a "fad" IMO (i'm sure i'll get flamed :D), ....but i guess the folks who are into long range accuracy - with high powered optical sights - have reason to invest it them.... keep in mind "accuracy" really has a lot to do w/ vibration (the pressure wave, harmonics, etc) which really requires the barrel to be "tuned" or matched to the particular ammo... ;)

as for me, all i care about is minute-of-bad-guy :D

Ok...I got my feet wet and ordered a New Frontier complete lower. Yea it's a polymer lower but I wanna step into this slowly, take it apart and put it back together a couple of times until I find a decent lower for my n00bness.

No problem with polymer lowers. From what a few people told me, a lower is a lower. Where you spend that money is in the upper, Bcg, and barrel.

did you do any research on poly lowers? Do you plan on running anything other than a .22 upper on it?

    http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=99515

I hope it works great for you though. How much did that thing cost you if you dont mind me asking? You can get normal lowers starting out at around 60 bucks ;)

Heard the same. Currently reading up and learning about uppers and stuff.
I did some reading on the polymers and it seems like the ones that were cracking between the grip and buffer tube were from a certain company at the beginning of the intro of polymer. Idk if that company is still around but I would guess that any other company would learn from that and improve the molding. Yes I plan on running a 5.56 upper on it. I'll let you know how that works haha.

The total for the lower was 122 not including transfer fees. I went with this lower for two things....make that 3.

1- Obviously it was cheap ,yes yes yes you get what you pay for, but that's what made it easy for me to want to get into the AR. If I like it then yeah I plan on getting another lower from the likes of PSA or from a local.

2- Going off of 1, I wanted something to get myself familiar with on the AR platform.

3- If I ever buy a really expensive lower I can just show the reciept of this one to the girl:D

Ordered a stag arms model 2t today can't wait to take it to the range but I want to clean it first. Can anyone recommend a quality cleaning kit for me and anything else I need to get such as lubes or tools. I'm pretty new to ar's.

Also, any good deals on ammo out there?

yes, make sure you strip the action and clean it, the barrel and chamber... you can use CLP (made by breakfree) for this... then lube the bolt and carrier "generously" w/ CLP or some other lube (i use hoppes gun oil)... put the action back together, insert into receiver, and work the action a few times - should be GTG ;)

oh, and don't forget you'll need a .22 cleaning rod, .22 bore brush, and some patches - for ARs, it's awfully nice to have a chamber brush too, and the chamber mops are nice too (i always clean them off w/ soap/water after use)... ;)
