Anyone have personal experience with CMMG 300AAC blackout upper?

I'm thinking of picking one up. I can't run suppressed b/c I'm in CA, but I like the novelty of being different and it seems that 300AAC blackout is gaining a lot more popularity than 6.8 or 6.5...

I already have in the works an 18" 5.56. I like the fact that I can use the same mags so that's why I'm not leaning toward 6.8 or 6.5.

Use is range time and HD.

No experience with their upper but a friend bought a SBR barrel from them for his 300 BLK build and the threads and crown were pretty rough. So much so that he took it to a machine shop and had them clean up the threads and reface the crown before he would trust it with his suppressor. No idea if this one barrel was indicative of overall quality.

I'm working on a stainless steel barreled build. Can one thread the barrel after the fact to accept a suppressor?

Sure, a gunsmith can. probably cheaper to sell it and buy a threaded barrel if you can sell it as new. Should cost $75 to $100 to thread a barrel. If you are going to send it out, send it out now before you build your upper.

Well I am talking about LWRCs SPR not the military designation towards a specific set of features that designate an AR an SPR. I was just giving you an answer about the spiraling on the barrel. Here is my SPR but LWRCI has designated it a DMR,

    IMG_0012_3b54eedd83c13d2a54f472c415c70f6337d3d0e2.jpg

I am actually switching the optic out to my MForgery and putting a nightforce or a leupold on it.

Here are some of the groups I have put up with it at 100 yards.

    890B0DA4-C2D9-4585-8CF8-6741B03B31D8-407_ac9a87ea7e0f61ca35ba3df0ea4e98b1ce06db18.jpg

All of them are at least five round groups, 17 is a ten round group. This is with my TA31H-G with the 2MOA dot in the middle. I think I could do better. The LWRCI SPR will do at least this good spiral barrel and all.

The spiral barrels are cool. I believe that they are superfluous.

Heat cycling a barrel rapidly can warp the barrel due to uneven rapid cooling afforded by the fluted barrel. (doesn't matter, spirals or flutes, both increase surface area and create various differences in thickness in the barrel diameter)

They do lighten the blank, and make it look awesome, but there is a reason you don't see fluting much in use outside civilian circles.

That is fine, we are entitled to believe what we want to. The reason why you don't see it in the military is because it adds to the bottom line of the rifle. Has nothing to do with performance. Fact of the matter is that LWRCI SPR barrel with its flutes still has a longer lifespan than your stainless steel barrel AND still delivers comparable if not better accuracy with reduced weight compared to a barrel of a similar contour without the flutes. Using the military as a gauge of what is good is a path to disaster. Don't forget a lot of what winds up in our guy's hands is the product produced by the lowest bidder. But again, I am glad you enjoy your rifle, but don't hate the flutes because YOU don't think they are worth the money. They serve purpose beyond looking cool. By the way, the flutes are seeing use in military units and certain .gov agencies ;)

I don't think they worry too much about the individual cost of things... This is why instead of using $100 optics that are COTS, we see them use $600 ones. Adding barrel fluting as a barrel profile would reduce the cost of this procedure to eventually make it a mute point anyways. (See M4 Profile.)

The flutes do nothing for barrel lifespan. That's great that they lighten the barrel, I never said they didn't. My major complaint is the differential cooling afforded by the thinner material in the flutes. Stainless barrels aren't what you buy for lifespan anyways.. A stainless barrel has much less mean lifespan than a carbon steel version. So... if they don't do anything for performance....

So if we don't use the military as a gauge of a good path, WHY THE FSCK DO WE EXALT THE GD TDP ALL THE TIME?!

Never said I hated the flutes. I just offered commentary on how the flutes can be detrimental to the weapons system. In a civilian application (including police service) where you're not doing mag dumps on full auto, you'll most likely never see the issues I'm discussing as a instant effect. It will affect your barrel over time though if you constantly heat your barrel near the heat treat temp for your selected barrel material

Where? The only ones I see are bolt rifles, not the point of my observation.

I also bolded certain things in your post that seem to contradict other statements in your post.

I'm glad you are in love with your LWRC rifle. LWRC has become a company that has made quite a bit of money selling to the civilian market, and they will continue doing so as they sell some really neat stuff, and some other stuff that isn't so great, like every company out there. Your job as a consumer is to properly select those things that support your mission. If piston systems and fluted barrels do that for you, great! I'm happy for you!

There is no way any optic that costs $100 can keep up with the ACOG's we use. The military still uses DI rifles, but that doesn't mean that they're better than newer piston guns(BTW not one of the "DI rifles suck" people). They also don't use free float barrels...

Answered in red. Yes I love my LWRCIs because they are accurate, they work, and they are quality. If a rifle with less features gets it done for you that is great, just understand some of your beliefs about them are not just misguided but flat out wrong. I am probably thinking you have never looked into them beyond their price nor have ever shot one. Thats cool different strokes for different folks, but if you spent some time away from M4C.net, you might learn something new.
