Just thought is throw this out there, since I've seen some people mention price gouging. That's not necessarily the case. A lot of gun shops have raised prices because they're switching to survival mode. Yeah, sales have been great, but availability is almost non-existent. Stores currently have a stock pile of money that is slowly being drained by overhead and wages, and of they can't get anymore merchandise, we can't get anymore money. When that surplus of cash low or gone when availability comes back, we have no money to purchase product with, making it nearly unrecoverable. We sold our last ARs today, and only have 4 Noveske chainsaw lowers left in stock... After that, I have nothing to sell. This is not a desirable position to be in for a gun store. Just saying...

if anyone is looking for a LPK, i was able to order one from palmetto state armory... it's the one w/ the Magpul MOE components (grip, guard), but it doesn't come w/ a FCG... the also had a complete lower build kit (LPK + buffer assy + Magpul stock), but only in flat dark earth... i would have gotten that if they had it in black...

Nice way to start a reply..."Nope".
Let me elaborate. For my setup (16" 1:7, 2moa Aimpoint zeroed at 50yds) I've never had any problems with 55gr groups and would much rather have the option to stabilize heavier grain bullets than be stuck with a 1:9 which will pretty much only handle 55-62gr.

Yes 1:8 is a good compromise but limits you in your barrel choices.

Again, my choice. I hope when you're recommending twist rates to your customers you're asking them what their setup/ shooting style is.

Not to mention most 1:9 twist barrels aren't chambered for 5.56. Colt commercial is, who else?
Who are you recommending for barrel manufacturers by the way?

Lets not forget the fact that one great thing about these rifles is the interchangeable upper!

Get all the twist rates. Even an old 1:12 ;)

Nope. I just tell them to get what I want them to have. There are plenty of choices for 5.56 barrels With a 1:9 twist, with Del-Ton, Daniel Defense, and I believe Smith & Wesson in the list as well.

He asked what the optimal was. You gave him a number, I gave him an explanation. Wasn't an attack on you, so don't make this an attack on me and what I do for a living. I didn't say 1:9 was the perfect barrel, I just gave a reason as to why I preferred it.

Another reason why I believe 1:9 is better is that 95% of the ammo available for the AR-15 platform is going to be a simple 55gr .223

Barrel manufacturers, Noveske has the best barrel on the market, followed by Daniel Defense IMO.

If you can afford $18 a box for some good Hornady .223 or 5.56, than a 1:7 barrel will do best for you. But since 98% of my customers want something to keep around the house, and to go punch paper with at a standard 100yrd, 1:9 will give them the best results from MY experience.

gonna be getting a billet 80% AR lower and 80% AK receiver down the road to build. hopefully when all the hype has gone down and I can actually get the upper I've been looking for. There are some local build parties that Im going to try to get into.
