If you take the mag apart (base plate, spring, follower, etc) then it is considered a repair kit and is CA legal. You have a PM inbound :)

I've seen that no oil required nonsense too. Best thing to do is coat that bitch in lube and whatever is excess will drip off.

    What's this gunbot stuff?

i'd still oil it, whenever's there's friction it's a good idea to have lube.

200 rounds isn't enough to show wear or get dirty enough to see why you have to lube your rifle.

I cerakote my rifles, they still require oil. I use Frog Lube.

It's your stick, you want to cause premature wear and possibly permanently damage stuff, more power to you :)

x39? i want one to use like a 30-30 but i haven't done research on them as i don't have the $$$ to spend on one.

what i would like to see is a 308 upper, semi auto, uses common mags, and it feeds from the left and ejects on the bottom.

    This.

Honestly its not like lubing your rifle is expensive...

Go to Walmart/dicks/academy/bass pro/cabelas/etc and get a $3 bottle of hoppes #9 and put a couple drop on the spots that will encounter friction. Not that hard.

Your not gonna get awarded any extra tacticool points for not lubing your gun because some brochure in a gun shop says "oil free"

Logic says that no matter what two pieces of anything rub against each other they will get worn down. I don't care if its, plasti derp, or ceramic coating. It will wear down. Gun oil keeps this from happening at a much slower rate.

magazines are the failing point on this for an AR build. AR mags dont really have much curve to them where the AK mags do. The 7.62x39 really needs a more curved mag to feed properly.

yup, got a piston 7.62x39 upper. upper and lower should be finished by this weekend, along with my home-built AK. Mags do seem to be the problem, the bullets get snagged pretty easily in the 10 rounder POS that I have, but I have a 10/30 that feeds fine. Rock River Arms has a AR-15 that takes AK mags:

that's what my one mag that works is pretty much. The top portion that fits in the AR magwell is an AR mag, but the portion of the mag past the magwell is an AK mag. It isnt welded together though.
