I'm most likely the poorest member of this forum but I try not to cut too many corners on my rifles. Troy's quality and reputation speak for themselves. If I ever am dependent on my BUIS, I'll have that piece of mind. And I actually like using my BUIS at the range as well as my primary.
That being said, I could care less what others put on their sticks but the reasons listed above are why I went that way.

I have MI flipups but only for looks. I think BUIS are pretty optional as long as you're running a top-tier red dot, but we're so ingrained with the look, it looks like my SBR is missing something if I take them off.

One guy says they're not needed since you are not in combat.

But the other guy says they are not needed if you have "top tier" optic.

Why would I need a top tier optic if I'm not in combat?

people have their reasons, i bought my "top tier" optic becasue i've learned cheap optics get knocked off zero. not big issue at the range, but when hunting, it sucks.

Durable, reliable electronics, ease of adjustment, quality of dot (not a grape cluster), great battery life, good adjustment range, minimal parallax, no blue or red tint to the glass, etc. Buy once, cry once, change the batteries (actually, battery singular on this one) once a year and don't worry about it breaking down.

This is a good point. Though, extra batteries in the range bag or on board in the grip would be a cheaper option than quality BUIS. ;)

Like I said though, I have them, so I'm not knocking those who think they're necessary.

I'd recommend you shoot a 7.5" before you buy one, if you haven't already. Teeth-rattling for sure, at the cost of velocity. My SBR started with a DPMS kitty kat upper that I quickly rebuilt as a 11.5". It's now another 11.5" (DD lightweight) and I see no reason to go shorter with 223. I might build an 8" 300 BLK to put on it when things calm down again.

planning on building a pistol/PDW off of an 80% I already have an AK pistol, just want options. I like to have interesting one-off stuff. Also building a 20" bull barrell varmiter, just sourcing basics. I have 4 new lowers to build.

I can put you in touch with Wes Grant, probably one of the best AR builders out there. He builds all of my AR uppers and he has completely figured out the challenges and nuances of running 7.5" barrels. He is not the cheapest but, he is the best. If you're on Facebook look him or his company (MSTN) up.

Alright guys need suggestions for a cantilever mount for a 30mm vortex scope. As of now it sits around 1.2'' off the rail and I have to burry my cheek into the stock to see anything.
I was looking at the vortex cantilever but can't decide if I need the removable option, is it worth it for the extra 100 bucks?
