$10 a mag for the m2 windowless Pmags, not bad for what all the other mags were going for.

I heard those require a bit of polishing and sanding to make it smooth and crisp.

I'd believe it, and I will be doing that. I'm just hoping the upper holds up for a while. I haven't heard anything long term about their BCG or their barrels.

Their barrels should be fine, that is if you got the one with the FN barrel.

I built my AR on an Anderson lower, it seems to be nice so far, I've ibly put 40 rounds through it though

Anyways, I've got a 1.5-4x leupold mark AR scope on my gun, what range do you all think I should sight it in for? 50 or 100? Yards?

PTAC does not use FN barrels, but it will still be fine. Just need to remember to run a wet patch down the bore when done cleaning.

All kinds of debate on that one. Some sight in at 33 yards, some at 50. I usually sight in about 1" high at 100 yds. That equates to a zero around 50 & around 200. Don't have to start thinking about holdover until I get out to 250+, and my local range only goes out to 250. I can hold dead on a 6" gong anywhere on the range and hit it. I run a similar scope (1-4x PST) and like it a lot. I think the 1-4x scope is about the perfect all-around optic for an AR.

cool, I think I will try sighting it in 1 inch high at 100 and see where my point of impact is at 50. if it is close to being dead on I will leave it like that.

is that the PST vortex you are talking about?

if it is, how do you like it, I am thinking about putting one of the vortex first focal plane scopes (cant remember the model) on my AR 10 build this summer.

No complaints at all about the Viper PST, except that my 2.5-10x has a speck on the inside of the ocular lens. Doesn't hurt anything though, and it's not in focus when you're looking through it. I have the 1-4, 2.5-10 & the 6-24x and they're all great. Love the resettable turrets & the mil-mil adjustments. Really good glass, crisp turrets, 30mm tubes.

Only one of my scopes is FF - I can see the benefit to it but I don't know if it's worth the $200 extra or whatever. I shoot mostly known distances and ranging doesn't really come into play until you're past 300 yds or so. I rarely shoot that far. Took 2 doe this year with the 2.5-10x on my 308 and it performed great in freezing cold temps & through hours of cold rain without fogging or leaking.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
PSA uses FN barrels in the uppers they build that are branded as PSA.

I bought a PTAC upper though. They're usually $100 or more cheaper than the PSA uppers. Their parts seem a little 'rougher' but it should be a good first AR for me.

I received the 5 M4 PTAC uppers from PSA. PTAC is supposed to be their "house brand". They are supposedly only made for and sold through PSA.

I got a bunch of the uppers I ordered from PSA on Friday, rest due in Monday.

Here is the difference in PSA/PTAC packaging. Both cost the same $15 S/H, guess PSA is making up some of the lower price there.

These are my first PTAC uppers and they are what I was expecting for $279 each, including M16 BCG w/ Carpenter 158 bolts ($294 delivered.)

Different forge marking on one, so various sources.

5.56 Nato 1/9, only plan on using 22lr and 55gr FMJ, they had 1/7 available also but went with these.

BCGs look fine, couple will need to be re-staked.

Can't really see in this photo but all the bores were clean and shiny, M4 feed ramps look good.
    PTACx5_Rcvr_Rear_e437f0dcfd02dc04cc9c2cbd04db1fd675e24ab3.jpg

Only damage I found was on 2 of the receivers, and CLP should make it nearly invisible.

Now just need to assemble lowers, add A2 Carry Handles, zero, clean and pack into safe.

My PSA lower and P-TAC arrived at my FFL last monday (12/16) after ordering on Black Friday. Was finally able to pick it up today. No blemishes that I can see, and the LPK looks decent. Working on putting it together now.

EDIT: Ive done everything I can do for now. Straightforward for my first ever build! The biggest pain in the ass was the front detent pin. Used the gallon ziplock bag trick to keep from losing the pin. Once I get a receiver extension and buffer tube Ill be able to completely finish the lower. I also didnt put the trigger guard in because I will be getting a Magpul one soon and those damn roll pins are a pain.

If you plan on building more lowers, consider something like this:http://www.midwayusa.com/product/318884/little-crow-gunworks-ar-15-trigger-guard-roll-pin-pusher it is a single use tool so not justified for a single build, but I build and rebuild lots of ARs and my friends borrow it all the time.

Thanks for the info! Yeah a press seems more apt for the job of installing a part that has an interference fit. This is my only planned build for now, I'm sure in a year or two there will be another to be built.
