Finally got to the range to shoot my first build! absolutely no problems, shot about 60 rounds with zero issues! Needless to say I'm hooked, and will be building another here in the near future. :D

The pic below is my 3 shot group at 50 yds with irons. I know its not spectacular by any means but it was my first time shooting irons on an AR. I am now looking into getting an optic, but not sure which one. I am leaning toward the Vortex Strikefire or Primary Arms M3.

I have a DPMS lite 16 I'm looking to do some mods to but am very green in this area. I'm wanting to replace the A1 upper with an A3 flattop and ad a free float forearm to it while removing the front site. Is this something I should tackle or just leave alone and take it to a shop.

might as well sell your upper and build/buy one similar to what you described IMHO. It's like going from a regular cab prerunner to a double cab 4x4 thru mods.

This. If you're getting rid of the A1 upper, and want to ditch the FSP (front sight post), you may as well just start from scratch w/ the A3 upper, and a new bbl w/ a low profile gas block and whichever rail you're wanting.

You have no rear iron? Possibly your problem? Or it's just not in the photo.

Do you have a vise? $60 in tools plus a $100 upper will get you there. No reason to take a loss and rebuy if you have any desire to DIY and have access to YouTube.

If you have zero mechanical ability and/or zero desire to learn, then by all means buy a different upper.
