Amen to that. That rifle still kicks my ass, even with the Archangel stock. 20 rounds is the most I've ever been able to put through it in a single trip to the range.

    Yep, have 2 of them

    Same

I'll regularly put 40 rounds or so through these in an outing (depending how much ammo I have, the .458 socom is much worse on the shoulder. I don't think my mosins lock that much. They are just loud lol. The biggest reason the socom hurts is the pattern on the butplate

So I am a complete noob to ARs... I can talk all day about handguns and shotguns but I am looking at purchasing/building my first AR. I kown most will recommend to build custom but I think for a starter AR it may be best to purchase an over the counter factory model to get more familiar with parts and accessories and basic function before diving into a custom build. After a few days of research, I have the basics down. I am aware if the different parts and their functions and common terminology but I am nowhere near capable of putting a build together. I am thinking of sticking with a major brand starter AR chambered in 223/556 such as a Smith&Wesson, Bushmaster, or Colt. All these basic models seem to be almost identicle as bar as materials and options. All include forewarsd assist and have a 1:9 twist (except the colt has 1:7) with fixed mag (Cali thing) and 16' chrome lined barrel with 4 position stock, milspec buffer, and optics ready. I can get the Smith&Wesson for as low as $550 ish with some connections and the Colt as low as $1000 (or $1350 with quad rail and flip up sights) with some connections. The Bushmaster is ugly to me and is mid priced. Cant decide which is really a better option. Both have amazing reviews for a starter AR. I dont want to go "cheap" but also dont have $1500+ to drop right now. Any recommendations or suggestions or general tips would be great.

On that note, I am open to build a custom AR but need some pointers on where to start and tips on what to look out for or keep in mind. I have already learned quickly that some manufacturers are making "hybrid" lowers out of polymer which have been known to suck ass (for lack of better terms) so things like that which can help enlighten me would be awersome

Don't rule out StagArms. Many don't like them because they are 1:9 twist and that's no mil spec (oh brother) but what most seem to not know for $75 you can have a package added that makes it 1:7 with HP:MPI marked barrel M16BCG and everything truly mil spec. Their customer service is great also.
Also I'm going to commit blasphemy but my personal opinion and experience is you're paying extra simply for a name with colt. They just aren't worth it.

If you get a complete upper and lower its literally just putting the two parts together and securing them with 2 pins.

Ill have to look into them. First Ive heard that brand actually (shows how new I am to this). I noticed your sig has a link in it. I cannot see what it goes to from my work computer right now but I have a few guesses based on "tactical". You are also right down the street from me as well. Is this site a shop or something that you work at or own? Are you an FFL?

But what benefits would I have from buying a completed upper/lower vs just buying fully assembled? For the most part, wont fully assembled already include the same basic parts the a premade AR would include therfore making it essentially the same? I could be way off but isnt the point of starting stripped so that you can literally customize and choose each individual part to your liking?

A completed firearm would have warranty whereas a completed upper and lower would not I assume? Or atleast not the same. And how would that affect cost of the build vs quality achieved?

Right in the end it's basically you doing the last final assembly compared to a factory.

I was looking at getting my first AR and was going to go the completed upper/lower route. I priced a "blemished" complete lower from Palmetto State for ~$200 to my door. A complete BCM upper would have been around $500 to my door. So for $700, you have an upper built by one of the best companies with a lower that is satisfactory.

Colt's are highly regarded because they have a contract with the military. So does FN and their AR15 is generally $100-$200 less than a Colt.

Colt lost that contract a while back. You will find CMT parts (stag arms parent company) in current military rifles also but most don't know that.

Anyhow ProForce yes I own an online business that I specialize in high quality complete uppers. I also do complete rifles just not very often because most build their own lower these days.

By purchasing your upper and lower deprecate you avoid a federal 11% excise tax pinned to all complete rifles.
