theres no reason not to switch to a wylde barrel in the future if you stick with those calibers. Just added benefits.

 

I bought a new lower for another build and I am thinking I will go SBR. I haven't decided on caliber yet though. Any suggestions, my buddy suggested 300 black out but I like the idea of having ammo readily available.

 

This is mostly correct. Enough to get the job done. It's the chamber type not barrel or ammo type. A 223 wylde is called a 223 Wylde chamber nothing else. It needs to be properly labeled so someone doesn't use 5.56 in a 223 rem chamber thinking its a 223 Wylde chamber.

We use AR15Performance barrels in all our builds unless you choose a stainless barrel. The 223 Wylde barrels are labeled 223 Wylde while their 6.8 are labeled 6.8 ARP.

What is the intended purpose that makes a big difference.

I built a 5.56 with a 16 inch barrel that is an awesome shooter and (imo) a good all around gun. There really isn't a definitive use I just want another very capable versatile weapon. All my weapons are versatile, so it would be for home protection and maybe see time in the woods for deer and pig

Function test of my new AR didn't go well. Cycled 2 rounds then that was it. The trigger didn't reset after the second round. It's a Timney trigger so my plan is to yank that out and put in an old fashioned trigger and see if it does it again to try and pinpoint the issue. Sound like a plan or any other ideas of things to check? It's a carbine gas system and rifle stock and buffer, BCG is radical firearms full auto profile if that matters. The bolt did lock up, the hammer just didn't reset. I ended up breaking it apart with the live round in it, resetting the hammer and then it went off fine.

 

I do not recommend the 300 BO for a hunting round. Never have and never will. It's a large round in a small case that is severly underpowered for hunting, therefore just not an effective or ethical hunting round. Phenomenal home protection though.

I can't think of a good caliber for SBR that is a good hunting round and home defense round unless your using it as a standoff type round. Then I'd say 6.8 but the 6.8 is way overpowered for home defense but phenomenal SBR hunting round. While the 300bo is the opposite. The 5.56 loses a lot of velocity in shorter barrels. There just is no do all caliber sadly

Well shit. A few things to check. Does the trigger stay to the rear and not travel forward? Or does it and no pew pew?
I'll bet you lunch that you have a case of hammer follow.

 

The trigger stayed forward but the hammer war up, against the firing pin, it never reset. Do you know what causes it? Not sure if I should be looking at the trigger group or something else.

 

Excuse my ineptness, but what is hammer follow? I've never heard that before, and I'm by no means an expert or even very learned when it comes to guns. You the bullets in the thing, the thing goes in the hole on the bottom of the gun and slap it to make sure it stays in, point the gun at what you're gonna shoot, safety off, finger on trigger when ready to shoot, put holes in paper or bad guys.

 

Oh and pull the thing back to chamber a round.

 

Everything seems to function as it should with the upper off of the lower. I just tried this:
Here's a function check for a bad/backwards disconnector:

With the rifle UNLOADED and NO MAGAZINE:

1. Charge the rifle
2. Pull the trigger with your left hand, and keep the trigger held down, don't let it go.
3. While holding down the trigger, charge it again with the other hand.
4. Slowly release the trigger. If it goes "CLUNK", it's good to go, if it really doesn't make a sound, then the hammer didn't get captured by the disconnector and followed the BCG forward.

A way to hold it to is put it on a bench pointing at the sky (resting on the butt), and hold the grip with your left hand, with your thumb on the trigger.

That "clunk" is the disconnector letting go of the hammer, and it being caught by the trigger, ready to fire again. Pulling the trigger again should make the hammer fall.

After that test, I passed. I hear the clunk and the hammer resets as it should. I'll try different ammo tomorrow and see if it makes any difference.

Except, mine doesn't do that. Mine went bang twice, then stopped...

 

If different ammo doesn't change anything, I'll replace the FCG and see if a standard trigger solves the problem. If it does, I'll have Timney fix their shit.

I would call Timney anyway, and make sure your set screws are adjusted properly and how to adjust them. I can not remember off hand which one it is. Maybe the info is on their site.

 

When the disconnector fails to hold the hammer and the trigger follows the bolt home without resetting.
