Well when Haley designed it with SDI it worked like a champ.

In other news, If anyone wants a sweet smithing tool that you can use in place of a mag well vise block, the geissele reaction block is SICK.

Did some distance shooting with my DMR in 5.56 yesterday. It's solid out to 700m, but I could only get 1/20 hits at 800m. The scope is insufficient for that distance - duplex reticle and not set up to "click" for shot corrections, but I also think the bullet is destabilizing and starting to tumble. We were observing something closer to a beaten zone as opposed to normal variation in bullet trajectory. It's easily a 1/2 MOA gun, so I expect that we have reached the limits of 5.56.

    I'm looking for a H-59 reticle in a Leupold/Nightforce/Vortex scope.

I'm not sure what your altitude is where you're at in AK, but you might be able to do 800m with 77gr consistently. 800 *yards* at sea level is about the limit for 77s. 80gr or higher will definitely do 800 meters, and will get you up to 1000 yards assuming ~2650 fps muzzle velocity.

I'll give it another try when I have a better reticle, or range where I can spot my misses. Right now, if I don't hit the silhouette, or the dirt road it's set up on, I can't see anything. I don't want to waste match 75gr bthp at $25/box of 20 "finding the target". My barrel has a 1/8 twist, so theoretically it should work. It would just make me feel better if I could reliably use the math I was doing before I take the shot.

I could be coaxed into a sale of the 512, I'd rather a XPS but I doubt that'll happen

Everyone seems to complain about the size and weight of the Elcan. It's probably the most bulky optic that's commonly used on a combat rifle. I was just using it as a comparison to the smaller and lighter Eotech 512.
