Build or buy and tinker, either way works. You'll end up with spare parts...spare parts turn into extra rifles. :D

Bought an LPK for my last rifle and bought a giesselle trigger as well...the trigger from the original parts kit is my excuse to build a budget AR (goal is under 400)

Oh, and I've bought guns because I got a holster thus would fit them...any excuse

My buddy is telling me a full auto bolt carrier group makes it a class 3 weapon. But everything I've seen is its ok, and the rifle kits come with one.

    So is it legal?

Also how are palmetto state Rifle kits?

Your buddy is an idiot. You can have every full auto part in there except the auto sear. Drilling the 3rd sear pin hole in an AR lower is what legally makes it a machine gun.

    PSA is good to go.

Be aware, the PSA brands not marked premium may have more qc issues than the premium stuff.

Thank you, that's what I'm looking for, I don't want to buy junk.

Is there a thread for stuff to avoid?

I want to do a budget build, but not have a junk rifle either.

If you buy PSA make sure it's marked premium. You'll be good to go.

Well got all the major parts for my "clone" mk12 mod 0.

    PRI mk12 mod 0 upper
    Mega Arms forged lower
geissele g2s trigger (thats been "tuned" so its a bit smoother than normal)
Magpul moe+ grip and trigger guard
    Rock River A2 stock
    [IMG]

Its not a total correct clone but its not to far off. The bipod is correct but the mount isnt. I also need to figure out what i want to do for a scope. For the time being I have a SWFA 12x (and 20x) fixed power i could use or i have a vortex 2.5-10 HS. Ill eventually get either the correct leupold or correct nightforce.....but thats way down the road lol. I also have the AEM5 suppressor on order :)

what is the reasoning behind having an elevated mounting rail on top of the receiver?

I've wondered that before as well. I have to assume that cantilever mounts just weren't around when the MK12 was introduced. The rail allows the scope to be mounted with regular rings, with the front ring forward of the receiver.

Its pretty much just to be able to use regular rings. The mod 0 was developed in 2000 so they didnt have quite the options we have now. The rail lets you use standard height rings and scopes instead of needing high rings. What i mean is a mod 0 uses medium height rings vs a mod 1 uses high height rings.

Theres not quite the need for it today with tons of options for mounting scope and full length rails, but those werent available back then

    2 questions

Vortex Venom...anyone used it? Thinking about picking one up for my pistol build

Speaking of the pistol build, I've been saving a stripped lower and parts kit from Palmetto and recently decided to build it out into a pistol...not the 1st build I've done but I've run into a strange issue

I got the trigger, mag release, bolt catch installed without issue...I went to do the grip/safety selector and the safety selector seems to not fit right...it hangs up on the outside of the receiver when going into safe mode...I believe it's cut slightly wrong

I don't need an ambi safety, nor do I want to spend a bunch of money because before optics, I'll have MAYBE $600 into this gun...do I just go pick up another cheapo selector or is there a reasonably priced upgrade of some sort that is a must have? Yes it's just a safety selector but I figure if I gotta buy a new one...might as well see what's out there
