I have the Daniel Defense 18" Strength 2 Weight 1:7 and really like it. BCM Seems like a quality manufacturer, I have their KMR handguard and have no complaints with it

Hmm. My truck gun is a 16". My house gun is 14.5". My campin' gun is 18". With a Mark AR 3x9 scope, the group at 100 yards with any of them is about the size of a quarter. The only difference in accuracy is beyond 300 yards, so pick the barrel for the range you are going to shoot at the most. 16" is a good all around length, another thing to keep in mind is what ammo you will use. If you are using surplus 55 grain stuff...it's only going to be so accurate. If you build an 18" precision rifle for 77 grain OTM's it will rival any 308 accuracy wise. Why not get both while you still can? Build an 18", but keep the 14.5" stashed away as a spare.

Well put, I know Ill get shit for this but I shoot a lot of federal but also a fair amount of wolf steel case poly performance and my reloads of 55 grain and 62 grain stuff. You think 14.5 will handle just about anything I throw down it? With somewhat accuracy?

For sure it will. Every soldier issued an M4 is capable of knocking down a man sized target at 300M with garbage bulk ammo, with iron sights. Except for Carl, that blind bastard. There is nothing wrong with steel case ammo for training and plinking, especially if you get a chrome lined barrel. I don't shoot it in my stainless bbl 18" gun, but it probably wouldn't hurt it.

I bought one of AIM's NIB BCG's and had to re-torque and set the screws. No problems since.

    Just finished this build!! :bananadance:

Still tweaking little things here and there such as the light and grip and whatnot to see where I like them best, but at least it's finished. Been a long process!

Yea I built a 10.5" pistol and couldn't get it to cycle more than one or two rounds at a time. I changed buffer springs, buffers, checked my gas tube, tried different ammo, nothing helped. Never thought to check the gas key until after I did all that other stuff. Sure enough, the key wasn't torqued and the staking looked like the ones in your picture. Looked OK at first but it wasn't...

Yeah. I was once issued an M16A4 (20" bbl) with an ACOG that changed my life. I always had iron sights before that and really didn't think much of AR's. I hated them so much I would always grab the SAW or M240B, as they are just as accurate but you get belts of ammo. Optics don't help you shoot better, but they sure help you see better. Good ones anyhow.
