a 16" barrel would save you a felony. Those are expensive. Assuming you are in Cali still.

If you work on you're taco you pretty much have a lot of the tools. But the must haves are :
Punch set(roll pin punch and holders)
Small hammer( brass one side and plastic on the other )
    Upper and lower vise blocks
Inch pounds torq wrench ( for optics not super necessary but helps )
Foot pound torq wrench ( 35-80 ftlbs for barrel nut)
AR barrel but wrench / castle nut wrench
Center punch (for staking the castle nut/ gas block / bolt )

That's the basic list of stuff I started out with. The more you build guns the easier it gets, and you'll find what works for you. If you need any help feel free to message me. I've built quiet a few and still do build them for people.

The thing with buying a kit. They only give you punches that you need. Honestly piecing it together won't cost more than buying a kit and you'll have punch sets vise 2 punches .

As for the gas tube alignment to. I've always just used a punch or an Allen key. #ghetto

The upper receiver block is the hands down most important tool. Get a quality one because you're going to be wrenching on it a lot.

Also browse harbor freight if you're just planning on doing one or two guns. I know everyone knocks on them but shit I've had some cheap tools last longer than my snap-on set.

Here it is. So the link is for the parts and if you see on the right side there are hyperlinks for the stages of the build.

Yeah for staking. Just a standard center punch will work. Roll pin punches are a must. You'll mess up the pins if you use a regular one and don't hit it just right.
