No problems yet though I don't shoot it all that much. I've heard 11.5 and 12.5 preform a bit smoother but I wanted to go really short without being a AR pistol upper. With the right buffer, smoothness shouldn't be a problem but with a suppressor, I probably would get an 11.5" or 12.5". Although there are plenty of folks that run cans on 10.5" SBRs.

I sold the ACR yesterday and got an M&P 15 with Magpul MOE furniture for the girlfriend. Then went over on how in depth on the operation system and some operating procedures of the platform. She wanted a smaller "zombie gun" as she put it ( which is awesome that she is at least thinking about the "what if" defensive side of things) and I am getting her setup for a 3 gun match walk-through here pretty soon. I look at teh rifle as her intro to the basic black rifle that can take some abuse and be a great training tool. As time and funds allow, it will be upgraded with some other stuff and eventually she'll get another platform to work on. She loves shooting small bore, and has a knack for longer range shooting as well. God help me if she really gets into shooting, I am going to have to sell a kidney to pay for all of this.

I've always been a shotgun guy (duck hunter) until I shot my buddies .223 and now I want one. I've been looking around locally and so far, it seems the M&P AR 15 is the best deal. Anyone have this rifle or know much about it?

It's not a 'top tier' company but it's close. They are good to go especially if you can get a good deal on one.

I would have no clue what would be a good deal but they're asking $899. Is that a price one could go with? Sorry, I'm still knew to this whole thing but definitely want a rifle. What would be a couple "top tier" companies?

    Damn, that's a deal!

That's a reasonable price, I'd say. Price sometimes is dependent on where you live unless you buy off the Internet. The top companies are Colt, BCM, Noveske, LMT, Knights Armament and Daniel Defense.

I doesn't rank too well but they do make a great 2 stage trigger. My first AR was a RRA Entry Tactical and it was a great plinker but it's not something I'd trust if my life depended on it.

A lot of it is the inspection process, the type of steel used for the barrel, M4 feed ramps or not, whether the proper staking is done, that kind of thing.
