Newb here.. how's the AR15 market these days? If I recall correctly there was a bunch of fear buying back in 2013 that drove up prices. Has that subsided? Relative to historical prices are they high or low atm?

I don't follow the market a ton - but I believe there's a glut right now due to pre-election production ramp up in anticipation of a certain candidate winning. As we all now know - things turned out differently and as a result demand for AR's has dropped. Combine that with the increased inventory and you have a recipe for bargains.

I'll let others with more/better knowledge chime in.

It seems that there are more "new" manufacturers than I remember from years gone past. Everybody was trying to get their slice of the pie and starting cranking parts out. While I can't attest the quality of many of them I am skeptical of all the new kids on the block. No way ALL of these bargain priced ARs and lowers are in spec with the rest.

Prices are down from what they were due to a flooded market, but not where they were back pre-'08.

Ars are very plentiful and inexpensive now. $600-700 can get you a good ruger or smith and Wesson entry level ar. Ars are more popular than ever so more and more companies are now making Ars.

I'm kinda reposting something I said earlier, but since you asked - prices are coming down. Stuff I wanted and couldn't get for months before the election are now not only available but on sale. The real smart money is in the pre-owned market. Lots of speculators horded thinking the were going to make a killing had things gone the other way. Well, there's lots of new, unfired ars' sitting in safes now being sold at a loss. When you gamble you win some, you lose some. Buyers are winning now.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not looking to "invest" per se but I am in the market for my first AR15 so was just wondering. Sounds like its a decent time to buy.

Owning an AR (or any firearm) is investing in your safety and freedom.

Sure. I only meant I'm not looking to turn a profit with it down the road.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
It's not bad for the price if you like that style. The dot is 4moa some like the dot bigger but I prefer a 2moa dot. It's heavier than a micro dot red dot. Backed by Vortex Lifetime Warranty which is a huge plus in my eyes. If you have Cabelas gift cards you got on eBay then this is worth it. If you don't you can buy it from say Optics Planet and used code: FBFAN11 and get 11% off of $179 price or $160.30 shipped. They even have factory DEMO (covered by lifetime VIP warranty) for $159 before 11% off or $141.51 shipped:
