My biggest question is why didn't the guy take an angle grinder to the front sight post instead of buying a gas block. Either he didn't know enough about ARs to know that it's possible or the barrel wasn't new when he built the upper and he didn't have the pinned FSP at all. So your barrel may be third hand at this point...

I still wouldn't be worried about shooting it though. Have fun with it.

I think he, or someone else was trying to make it Noveske fabulous. If it was not for the drill holes and the DD rail, it would have all the parts of a Noveske build.

What youre saying is what ive suspected the whole time, that this was not his upper, he was selling it for someone else, or purchased it as it is and decided he did not want to deal with this either.

Thank you for the input. I plan to take it to the gun smith I mentioned, see what he says. It clearly was not a factory build, as they would have pinned the gas block. I need to find my SAE tools so i can take the gas block off.

Are you a gunsmith? If so would you have a method to pin this gas block that could utilize the existing hole that is under the block?

Hmmmmmmm, concerning. I dont want to clean it so i can ask the gunsmith if it looks like only 200rds were fired through it, which i doubt.

You're worrying way too much about this. Every military rifle has two of those exact same cuts in the barrel and have no problems.

But the space is filled by a metal pin. Let me put this out there, i paid $750 for this. Ive added up all the items on this upper. Brand new, not including taxes, it would come to approximately $1150. Should i not be complaining?

Do i need to be happy and go take some OCD pills?

No need for pills, I'd be disappointed as well with it compared to what you thought you were purchasing. I'm just saying the drilled holes for a pinned front sight block are not something to be concerned with. The barrel steel is what provide some strength, not the pin. You could tap a new pin in there if you wanted but not having one will not result in failure.

i use Pelican cases for my photography gear. They take a beating. I do need to pick one up for my AR. How much did you drop on it and where?
