I just traded my ACR for cash and an M&P 15. Its a great platform. The GF said she wanted a good zombie gun and the ACR was a bit too heavy for her small frame. I would reccomend it if you cannot afford a top tier system like LWRC or Noveske.
You can always upgrade the BCG,barrel and compensator/flash hider and have an excellent setup as well.

On the M&P, be wary of the "OR" or "Optics Ready" model. The base gun should be on par with the other models (which is good or bad, depending on your point of view) but the gas block on the front can be problematic down the road depending on your use. If your intent, however, is to mount a conventional optic with no need or desire for a front sight, backup or otherwise, it may be a good value.

build your own. you can get a high quality, completely customized AR for less than $900. if you want to buy a complete upper and assemble your own lower, its SUPER EASY!
    Example:
    Spike's lower from Aim: $80
MOE lower build kit from Palmetto State: $140
    BCM Middy Upper: $400
    BCM BCG: $140
    MI drop-in 2 piece Handguard Rail: $140
    Total: $900
and that's a way better weapon than a $900 level RRA, M&P, Stag, etc.

    mine

    BCM upper - 400
bcm bolt carrier (already had chrome bolt) - 70
    BCM CH - 45
magpul kit - 100 (stock, grip, hangaurds, buffer, buffer tube, spring)
    sog lower - 100
    DPMS lpk - 65
    magpul buis 56

    total = 836

I could have saved 20 bucks by getting just a standard charging handle but I opted for the nicer one. I also have an aimpoint but I dont include that in the price of the rifle ;)

That looks great. I'd like to get a can too someday. For now I put my 552 back on it until I order a ADh-68 for my Aimpoint to try that out. I'm not liking the GG&G co-witness so it's being sold off.

    Good info.

Maybe I should tell what I'd be using it for. It'd be mainly a plinker at the range but I would also like to use it for squirrel and rabbit hunting. And now a buddy of mine is talking about coyote hunting. I probably wouldn't being going a whole lot so maybe a top of the line gun wouldn't really be something I need.

Also, I would like to have to short range scope and something for long range. From what I understand, I can have both mounted and flip one to scope to the side to use the other?

Here is the one I was looking at and might go for unless more research changes my mind: (The one I was shown looked exactly like this minus the iron sights)

Alright, I finally got it the way I want (minus a Magpul BAD lever) AND got to sight it in this morning. Actually I just got it real close @ 50yrds but I still need to fine-tune @ 100yrds.
I really like the Aimpoint but I didn't really do any quick shooting with it this morning; it was all bench (bed of Taco) shooting. I also like my new ADh-68 mount very much. I was thinking of putting my Eotech back on this rifle but I'm not so sure that now I won't just keep this set up.

Sorry about lack of updates. I've been shooting. The rifle on the bottom is my M&P 15, top is my buddies Stag. (Yes, I know 30rd clips are illegal in CA, they're his and he goes out of state a lot. Have one in mine for pic purposes only)

Magpul stock, grip, and foregrip. GG&G back up sights (which I have returned because they don't work on my gun) and some P.O.S IR scope. Just my little toy and coyote gun.
