My 16" is an LMT. Got pricy pretty damn quick. I was over $2k just for the gun by the time I got it fireable, not to mention the optics and sights.

    It's ~200 for a polymer AR-10 lower?

60-80 in my opinion is about the right range for a poly AR-10 lower.

No experience with an AR-10 lower but I do have a poly AR-15 lower.
It feels cheap to me but so did the glock lower that I milled out, the only issue I have seen from poly lowers is them breaking where the stock threads into the lower, in fact a So-Cal member had his break in a soft case while driving his LT'd truck through the desert. However the poly lower linked above has metal in it at the buffer tube assembly and pistol grip assembly so I wouldn't be worried about it.

The poly lowers are notorious for being a little cheap. IMO it'd have be a babied rifle, not anything you can beat up and definitely not a defense weapon. Gently pick it up and gently put it down again- sort of thing. If you're OK with that, then go for it. It'll still work for years, you just can't be an ape about it.

Ever consider building an 80% AR10? You can get a relay good billet lower for around your price range, or go cheaper if you can find a forged lower. I've had really good experiences with a few so far. I know it doesn't make too much sense (financially) for people in other parts of the country, but I did it more for the building experience and you know- ghost guns FTW.

Yeah.... don't do an ammo count at my house after .223/5.56 goes on sale in bulk. That, and silica gel.

Takes moisture out of the air. I put it in the ammo cans for storage.

TBH, it does get pricey for initial setup.
You have to get a jig (some jigs will only do one caliber- AR15 or AR10). Some come with drill bits and carbide bits for your router. You'll also want good drill bits if you don't have them. Aluminum is easy to drill, but you want clean, precise holes.

If you're don't plan on milling several, then it might not be worth it honestly. I split the cost with a friend so it didn't hurt so much. We bought the JT jig that mills AR15, AR10 and AR9, a router and a Costco family-pack of lowers. I did end up buying a few more bits for the router, but found a local place that was pretty cheap for that too. Now we can mill as many as we want whenever we want and if a friend wants to build one, they can use our tools.

I think together we've made almost a dozen lowers so far. Fun process, but yeah, that first one was scary as fuck. I kept thinking the router was going to get away from me and we'd have to duck from the shrapnel. Everything went smooth and now I'm pretty good at it. Can knock out a full milling in maybe 30 min.

Most jigs come with carbide end mills (what you need for aluminum). If you need a source, check these guys out:

(quoting myself from this thread back in 10/16. Haha!)
