Yes regular AR lower. Need Grendel barrel, bolt, & mags.
If building I'd suggest a quality BCG like the JP which will cost you more.
Read up on the 6.5 grendel forum on bear creek for user reviews, but it's probably a decent decent upper.
I went with a complete JP upper which was 4X more than that bear creek. I had such good performance from their .223 rifle I figured their grendel was as good.
Grendel is the kick of a .223 with the hitting power close to a .308 but an with amazing ballistic coefficient comapred to .308.
Read some of user 'LRRPPF52's post on the grenedel and you will be a believer.

I don't want to spend that much on an upper. I know that i have to be willing to spend $$$ to really get quality but i just want to ring steel out to 600 or so yards. Even a mid range rifle is goikg to out shoot me now, i need practice as a shooter more than anything.

I'll sink $ into nicer equipment once I'm done with college and have a higher paying job.

On that not what would you recommend in the $500 to $600 range for a full upper?

I am going to need a new trigger group eventually but I'll get that later.

Honestly what I have learned since i started shooting is that 1MOA doesnt mean jack crap anymore. It used to be 1 MOA meant $$$ and that you knew how to shoot and reloaded. Now-a-days with CNC machining and all hitting 1 moa doesnt quite have the same meaning.

What I am getting at is to just look for reviews on your said upper (bear creek) and see what sort of results people are getting. My $300 ish PSA upper (before they had freedom/premium.ect..it was just a PSA upper) shoots 1 MOA just fine for instance.

AR-10 or AR-15 Lower, new to this, just brought my first AR home this week. I like the sound of Grendel.

An old friend of the family messaged me on FB tonight, pretty cool to see a lady in her 50’s get into the gun world.
When I knew her in San Diego she was very hippie, wasn’t anti-gun but she made it clear that she didn’t feel like she needed one personally and didn’t think that would change.

Edit: whoops, moonshine led me to believe this was the firearms BS thread.... oh well.

I have no experience with other grendel uppers so you're going to have to read :)
The Geissele National Match trigger is very nice. You can adjust the 1st and 2nd stage pulls to your liking. Bill Geissele has a 30 minute video of how to install and adjust it.
I have 2 and have them set pretty low for a precision type rifle.

    AR-15 lower.

And speaking or prices, quality grendel ammo is about a buck a round. I've never shot the Wolf steel case stuff. I use the Hornady Black 130's as well as am trying to develop a load of my own.

Unloading is much MUCH more fun and less time consuming. I'm still too young and dumb for reloading.

Yeah it's not going to be a rifle that gets tons of rounds fired through it. I want to get into reloading at some point but not for a little while.

So Im torn between 18 and 20" barrel lengths. Going to go with a 1:8 twist. Going to be either o ff of these Bear creek uppers:

    https://www.bearcreekarsenal.com/new-6-5-grendel-complete-upper-assemblies

    Or this Sanders:

    https://sandersarmoryusa.com/product/20-6-5-grendel-parkerized-hbar-upper-assembly-with-bcg/

Still need to do more reading. Mostly about barrel and bcg materials and coatings

Not trying to be a downer but any quality rifle ammo starts around $1 per round unless it’s .223/5.56 then you can get it a little cheaper. Long gone are the days of quality $10 per box good ammo or even $10 bricks of .22
