AR-15 BS Thread

So picking up the AR tomorrow, first gun/rifle I’ve owned. I’ve shot a couple, but I’m still fairly new to all of this and I know I’ve got lots to learn. I’m in the market for a scope and I’m not trying to spend tons of money, but at the same time, I’m not trying to get the cheapest thing that’s going to break on me after the first shot. So my question is if you guys could maybe recommending stuff you’ve used or use. I’ll go ahead and add that I don’t plan on doing any far distance shooting, just basic shooting for now. Hopefully that’s not too vague.

I'm a fan. Even with the 5x I can still do 2 eye sighting without going crosseyed. They also make a 3x that my brother has which is nice but isn't much better than irons out past 100yards. I've also got their advance micro red dot which has stood up to about 3 years of abuse on the same battery.

 

Look at the Vortex line of products. You probably need to start with the type or category of optic you want. Reddot non-magnified, low to medium power magnified 1-4x or 1-6x CQB type scopes, or higher power magnified 3-9x or 4-14x etc. There are many other types available, but these three categories are probably the most common. I personally like the 1-4x or 1-6x CQB scopes for a good all-around do anything scope when you only have one. I have many rifles and there are more Reddot non-magnified type optics mounted than anything else. But I like lightweight and most of my shooting is done at 100 yards or less so they work well for me. If I did more 100+ yard distance shooting I would probably be more willing to accept the heavier weight of magnified optics.

 

Yeah I’ve been told by my buddies to do that, but my impatience takes over haha thanks for the suggestions though

 

I’ve got the 1-6 acss and love it. Won’t go wrong with either.

 

I have a primary arms scope on my 308, i like it a lot except the turrets are squishy. It holds zero well and has held up well so far.

I have a vortex 1-4 on my AR, its nice but their bottom tier so the glass is pretty poor and the turrets are squishy. It does exactly what i need it too though and i like it a lot so far.

Nobody knows how to use irons anymore, i trt use my backup irons for at least 1 mag when i go out. I could definately use more practice

 

So I’ve been looking at this one since the reviews seem pretty positive, the only thing is that I’m not certain if it comes with the mounts included or not. I read something about the mounts, but not sure if it’s just me, but I’m not 100% sure if it’s the mounts I’d need.

 

Comes with the mount as seen in the pics, although very basic it does the job. I have the 5x version and can say only positive things about it, zeroed quickly and has retained it for just over 2 years now. It's truly a great low budget optic.

 

X2. You start splitting hairs $100s at a time until you get into premier optics. For me it's either this glass or I'm in the 4 figure range.

 

Annnndddd just bought the scope. All these damn hobbies are going to make me a single man if my gf ever finds out how much I’ve spent on the truck and now new toy...

 

You won't regret it . Their reticle is real quick too once you become familiar with it. Against natural lighting the sight mark, the lateral way, get you real close to where you need to be.

 

Decided to build, Ordered a PSA AR-15 "Stealth" Stripped Lower Receiver to get started.

 

Well pulled the trigger on my build finally. Got a sig brace and the binary trigger!
Need to submit my stamp and wanting to get a law tactical folding stock.
My complete 300 blackout upper will be here soon hopefully and I’m either going to sell this upper or build a 5.56 upper so it’s cheaper to shoot than the 300

Although you make a valid point, I’m pretty sure that when talks about saving up for a house together come up, spending money on guns and truck parts isn’t what she wants to see haha

 

I bought my first house with mybthe girlfriend not fiancé. Quit buying guns and start upgrading your existing guns. They all look the same to her.

 

Yeah that’s what I’m planning to do. No more guns for now, and I’m more than happy with my truck and where it’s at.
