Unless you already have the tools you won’t save money. 80% arms has a great jig system though.

I’d like to make one just for the hell of it. Same with a polymer 80 glock frame.

No problem! You actually use a hand router for theirs and from the videos it looks super easy.

There’s is a sense of pride in “making” your own firearm start to finish. As others have already said, for the most part it’s not worth it-money wise unless you plan on doing a bunch or splitting the cost of the tools and jig with friends.
Especailly when you see places like PSA that sell stripped lowers for as low as $30 sometimes.

I agree. I’m not worried about cost it’s just something different. I have cerakote and have access to laser engravers and a whole machine shop it’s more about the project for me.

I just started using alumahyde. testing out DIY finishes for firearms. might get a cerakote kit and a dedicated oven for it.

The initial cost is a bit much but once you get a good blast cabinet and compressor you’re good to go. It’s tough stuff and there’s a bit of a learning curve but I thoroughly enjoy it.

Don't worry, I'm less tha 10 minutes away from their biggest store and range and I haven't gone broke in there

It's easy to not buy anything when no one will talk to you while you're browsing

I drove across town 45 minutes away to their other store so I could buy a shotgun because a buddy works in their small retail shop

Yup. I’m standing staring at you and you won’t help me. Seems like it’s almost universal with gunshop guys.

Had the same issue a few years ago trying to buy a couple of stripped lowers at the big LGS. After about 20 minutes of not being acknowledged, and being the only customer in the store, I left and drove an hour to Spike's. Got the lowers $20 cheaper and got to shoot the shit with some legitimately cool, down to earth folks.

Spend the money on three 30 round mags and put the rest to ammo. $125 for the capacity of two standard magazines makes no sense.

You guys must have some bad gun shops. My local gun shops are all over you when you walk in. They know me now so its not so bad. Either extreme is super annoying though I bet.
