Why did you choose to "dmr" a 300blk? Is it a hunting rifle?

Just curious, it's a nice rifle and a good round.

When you absolutely, positively have to kill every pig in the bean field...quietly :D

What barrel did you go with? I'm contemplating a 300 BLK barrel for my SBR.

That's a Noveske barrel, and the reason to DMR a 300 BLK is that the round has substantially more knock out to 300 yards over the 5.56

It's also easily suppressed, hence the AAC mount there. For the keen of eye, that's a phase 5 ambi bolt stop and a Timney 3.5# skeleton trigger. They look good together.
LMT Lower, BCM upper/BCG. Larue mount, Nikon mil-dot 4-12x glass with a quick switch, BCM Gunfighter charging handle.

This rifle is also currently being ceracoted, I told my coater to surprise me. I'll have more pics when I get it back.

Oh yea, if you SBR the 300, do an 8"r That's what the round was designed for. My next SBR will be a 300 in 8".

It definitely has better ballistics than the 5.56. I just don't like the external ballistics past 300yds.

    what's you zero?

and thats why i bought my .300 and AAC SD... shhhhhhh

I don't think I'd do the 8" until 1 in 7" barrels come out. A few folks have had stabilzation issues when pushing a subsonic bullet too slowly in the 1 in 8" and I'd hate to blow out my 762sd. I'll probaby get the Stoner 10" or the Wilson Combat 11.5". Can't justify the $350 Noveske or AAC barrels.

There's virtually no difference in a 1/7 and 1/8 barrel when you get below 16"

The 300 BLK was designed for a 8" barrel. Even the test barrel for the round wasn't the normal 24"r.

I bet the stabilization problems were do to a bad round recipe. I shoot both super and subs out of the 16"r with no problems.

Also, keep in mind that the purpose of an SBR is CQB. Don't expect a sub MOA rifle with subsonic rounds at long distances.....

My zero on this thing with 220 gr subsonic is 50 yds, aiming 2 MIL up rings a gong at 100 yds and 8 MILs up rings the gong at 200. I have a 2.5-10x PST on it (not pictured) and try to use reticle holdover vs. dialing in the range in prep for hogs.

I have mine zeroed for 25yd and try to keep shots within 200yd (which is easy where I hunt)

I also choose hold over. somehow I just "feel" the correct hold instead of dialing it in

    Edit: thats with 125's

There absolutely is a difference when you're on the ragged edge of stability. A 220 gr SMK at 1000 fps is stable in a 1:8" twist 8" barrel, but just barely. Drop down to 900 fps and it's iffy. That means if you're off by a hair on the load and have a variation of 100 fps, you have a chance of sending a SMK through your endcap. The 1:7" increases that stability. You can also increase the stability by going with a longer barrel, or adding velocity. Two things that are less than ideal in an SBR.

AAC has already announced they are going to 1 in 7" for current and future 300 BLK applications.

By the way - what can are you running?

762 SD AAC can. I use it both for 5.56 and .30 cal (300 and .308)

And there really isn't a huge difference in the twist... It's pretty simple math actually. You're gaining less than .285 of a rotation in a 16 inch barrel to go from 1/8 to a 1/7. 2/10ths of a rotation?? In a 8" it's half that even. Anyone who is trying to tell you there is a difference doesn't know what they are talking about and have been eating gun board garbage.

The reason they are saying this is that there IS a difference between the 1/12 and 1/8 barrels in use for 5.56. And even then, at 100 yards, it's acceptable, Minute of Man and all.

The problem most people are having with 300 BLK involves the OAL and the jump. Running the heavier projectiles with less powder is already an issue, then seating with no jump... Bad recipe.

Also Above, they are carrying 10.5's because they are chambered in 5.56.... That's the shortest you need to make a 5.56 rifle if you want it to be reliable.. Even then, 11.5 is a bit better because you can tune the gas a little better and add dwell. The little diplomat pistol length barrels are cute, but not really one of the best uses of the 5.56 round either ballistically or mechanically.

(AAC went to the 1/7 because some idgit wants to load 240's. I think it's more of gun juju, and not of the actual physics. Robert Silvers doesn't even seem to volunteer much info on the change either... Just a bunch of random cryptic answers in the threads I've read...)

For a factory ammo loaded to the SAAMI specs, the 1/8 will be just fine. If you have a baffle strike with factory ammo, it sounds like a warranty issue.
