NICE... hey quick question have you ever had a problem where the ACOG got so far off zero (to the left) that it wouldnt even hit paper...???? not sure if i bumped it hard or something..??? im gonna try to rezero it this weekend...??? even when i adjusted using the turrets it still seemed to stay far left ... i took the ACOG off the mount and made sure the screws where all on snug even with locktight... so hopefully it will work when i take her out again...

No never had anything like that happen. What kind of mount do you have it on? It sounds like there may be something wrong with the mount. ACOGs rarely have issues like that. If you figure out it isn't the mount, I would take the optic off and see how it does with the irons. If the irons way off to the left too then you know its the rifle. If not then you know its the optic. I may be an LWRCI fanboi but I would suspect the rifle having an issue before I suspected an ACOG having an issue. Have you made any changes lately? Did you use blue loctite on the mounting screws. Didn't you switch to a Samson rail? See if the screws are still torqued.

The mount is the factory one i Believe the TA 51 mount... and while at the range i took the ACOG off the rail and ran irons and i was hitting paper no prob... i took it home and took the mount apart cleaned it up and put blue locktight again... And i am an LWRCI fanboi just like you haha :cool: i had installed the Samson rail a while ago and it was running just fine.... this might sound wierd but i think the Bill of my hat hit the top turret pretty hard on one of my shots... not sure if that was the case... im thinking of getting the LaRue QD mount... but not quite sure yet....

    Question:

Can you build a reliable piston AR for less than $1500 that is comparable to an LWRC??

as far as the ability to run, probably but it would have to be a well sorted out kit. As far as features not so much. Their barrels are works of art. Now you can definitely build one as nice for more than 1500, probably nicer. There is always a way to make something better, just need deep pockets. The one thing your built rifle will NEVER have is LWRCI's customer service backing if something goes wrong. They are pretty much no questions asked and have usually under a two week turn around. I have seen them take the time to accuracy test someone's rifle and have it back to them in under three days.

Sandman did you tap the turrets after adjustment?

Personally, not a fan of piston.

Really, it's nothing new, the AK and SKS, as well as dozens of other semi-auto designs have used it since WWII.

So why not on an AR?

    Compaibility.
There are what, 4 different manufacturers of piston gas systems, and none of the parts are interchangeable.

My conventional builds? I can walk into any gun shop between California and New York and buy any part I need... and even a lot of shops in California!

That is cool as we are all entitled to opinions. Any well sorted out rifle of any brand and type will run better than a hobby gun. For some people they like pistons some don't, neither is wrong if their reasoning is sound.

LWRCIs are excellent systems, they run like Singers, and they are packed with useful features. Parts commonality is not an issue for me since I own more than one and have enough spare parts to support each one to the end of their barrel life, 20,000+ rounds. There are a few out there at the 25K mark still putting up sub MOA groups.

In a true SHTF scenario do you really think you will find enough weapons laying around that you would tear one apart to use its parts on your rifle? Or would you be more likely to pick up the whole rifle that you found, put your stuff on it and keep trucking? In that case piston or DI doesn't matter.

Like I said we all are entitled to our opinions and I am happy that we have options open to us. Here is the opinion of Larry Vickers on the subject...

Think about number 4 in context of SHTF.

I have a custom M4 16" Barrel 1/7 twist chambered in .233/.556. I ordered The upper complete from www.spikestactical.com. I also ordered a complete lower with enhanced trigger system from them. You only need to ship the lower to your FFL dealer.

I'm new to the AR game, and built one myself from a Spike's lower and a 14.5" Bushmaster carbine upper I scored at a local gun show for $400. The upper looked barely used, and the flash hider is pinned and welded to bring it to 16". Much easier than I thought, and super cost effective! Wanna put together an AR pistol now :D

The pic of it by itself is mine, the one at the range is mine next to a buddy's using a Spike's lower and a BCM upper, also 14.5", but mid-length.
