Thanks - so I've found that same info and pictures...but I'm not finding barrels that specify the cut.

 

Since you said you were looking on gunbroker, I searched "ar15 barrel" on gunbroker and the very first result specified M4 feed ramps.
If you're not sure, I would ask before buying.

 

Ok, I found the M4 feed ramp designation on some web sites - but not on the listings on GB. Any recommendations on barrel manufacturers..or any to stay away from?

 

Weired - I must have looked at 15 and couldn't find any listing the feed ramps. Must be my old eyes.

Any milspec barrel will have M4 feed ramps.

 

Maybe it's because I'm looking at .223 Wylde barrels? I'm going to build with an 18" .223 Wylde with a mid-length gas port.

 

Not sure if you're stuck on gunbroker or not but I can find lots of 18" 223 wylde barrels that specify m4 feed ramps.

Thanks, guys, for the advice and patience. I'm not hooked on any one place to buy components. I've used corporate websites, eBay and Gunbroker to acquire components so far. I ordered an assembled FDE Aero Precision upper last night through Gunbroker for $85 shipped and a matching free float hand guard with barrel nut and shims through eBay. At this point, I need the barrel, gas block, gas tube and muzzle break. I also want to put an adjustable, fixed stock (have the components for a carbine stock on hand) at some point.

Any thoughts on Bear Creek barrels? I found some on sale on Primary Arms. I want something that is going to give me good accuracy...but I'm not going to compete nationally so good is OK.

 

Haven't used bear creek personally, but was looking at them when I built my 300 BLK... Ended up going with a Ballistic Advantage barrel and couldn't be happier. Great quality and accurate, all I could really ask for.

 

Have you checked out DSGARMs.com? They usually have a pretty good selection and offer a .mil discount.

 

My upper is a bear creek built 6.5 grendel. It's been reliable for me thus far, haven't shot it for groups yet.

Have you looked at Larue barrels? $200ish and crazy accurate.

 

I have never used Bear Creek barrels, but I own a couple of their lowers and wasn't a big fan of the coating they use, although no actual performance concerns. Check out faxon barrels, used them on my last 2 builds.

 

I second Faxon barrels. I really like the one I used on my 18" upper build.

 

Has anyone found a need for Go/No Go gages? I have a set for my Mosins but am wondering if the mil-spec tolerances offset the value of the gages. Then, on the other hand, I keep thinking safety.

 

I plan to pick up a set for quick-changes of my Savage barrels, but in an AR15 most people shouldn't need them. If you build your own rifle they're not a bad idea for final fitment checking.

 

I'm speaking on my own behalf. absolutely YES on the go/no go gages.

 

So, since I am going with a .223 Wylde barrel, should I go with 5.56 gages or .223? I assume 5.56 since if that will chamber, a .223 will chamber, too.
