It was called a LaRue Po'Boy. It's a surplus Hendsoldt 2.5x magnifier that was originally made to be used with the German Panzerfaust anti-tank weapon. They had a range finding reticle based on the Russian T72. LaRue (and others) would open them up, remove the reticle, and repurge them with nitrogen. They made one-off spacers so the optic would fit the 30mm optic mounts.

The Hensoldts flooded eBay back in 2008 or 2009. I picked a bunch up when they were around $20, then sold most of mine when they were drying up and going for around $100.

I've been very happy with both my PSA .300 builds.
    Most recent was 8.5" pistol

I seriously considered going .300, but I just started getting caught up on 5.56. I don't need another caliber...

Oh, and you guys did a horrible job of talking me off the ledge. I compromised and ordered a NIB KAC M4 RAS kit. Bastards.

I went .300 so i coukd use it as a hunting option where I live.
We have an extended early and late deer season for archery and pistol;)
So it gives me an extra 3 months of woods time.
I love my 5.56 as an all day shooter and wasnt planning on switching calibers, BUT the state gave me to good an excuse:thumbsup:

Not that I'd shoot that far but do you have to have a special scope bracket so you dont run out of adjustment on your scope?

Ideally you'd have a 20MOA scope mount to allow for the extra distance. I happen to have enough in that Nightforce scope for 1K yards. After I was finished I went to dial back to zero but dialed up instead. It only went up another couple MOA then stopped, was out of travel. Doubt I'll even go past 1K so my 0 MOA scope mount is fine for now.

Most sane scope and cartridge combos have enough adjustment to make it to 500 and hold dead on, but I've seen some crazy long distance stuff that requires massive enough corrections that zeroing at 100 becomes impossible. I've even heard of an ELR team that zeroes at 1k.

If ya'll were building a 300blk pistol that will eventually get suppressed

Which upper set up would you run? Barrel length?

    I haven't set a budget yet...I know I want mlok compatible

Every one can just skip the PSA kits...I'm not trying to keep the entire thing under $500 and frankly I dont want their stuff

I've been eyeballing a BCM upper in the 9" flavor and a Larue in the 12" range...open to other higher end brands

Also don't particularly want to piece an upper together but dont mind sourcing BCG and charging handle

From what I read you get full powder burn out of an 8” barrel for 300blk, so anything longer than that is not necessary for ballistic performance. Not sure about if longer may be better for cycling reliability though.

I've read similar but gathered that 9" was the sweet spot

I'm still open to suggestions, real world use etc because I'm not settled on anything yet

I definitely want it pistol length with mlok but that's as far as I've settled

Personally I would piece together an upper with Aero Precision striped upper, YHM free float rail, and then a barrel.

For barrel length I would run between 11” and 12.5” because shorter for my wingspan just isn’t comfortable and it’s still compact with a 6”-8” can.

BCM has a 12.5” with Mlok, I’m sure the Larue is also good.
