Installed the LaRue MBT-S2 tonight, holy crap it's a nice trigger, its a hell of trigger for $80 and the only drop in AR trigger that I've shot that is close to it is the Hyperfire Reflex (Formerly the 243G) and it wasn't cheap.
I'm tempted to try the Larue Single Stage when I go to a flat bow.

I was similarly blown away by mine. It's the best qualities of my Savage Accutrigger, M1 Garand trigger, and Cajunized P07 trigger all in one.

Going to bite the bullet on a AR.
Was going to build one but been looking at the RRA varmint 223 with 20” stainless bull barrel. I will be target and ground hog hunting with this set up and I also herd the varmint trigger was pretty good.
Any opinions before I do this would be great. I will also be hand loading for it.

I don't know much about that rifle, but it sure looks good. I'm a huge fan of stainless.

Seems like a good setup at a very fair price, though I'd consider something with a threaded muzzle if you think you'll ever want to throw a can or brake on it. I've heard that a good muzzle brake on a long, heavy varmint gun makes shot spotting/watching the show a trivial affair.

    Yeah.
Hey guys, new to the AR world. I moved to Arkansas a couple years ago and needed a new hobby, so I figured I'd go full Arkansas and build my own guns. I started with a couple of budget-build AR pistols in .300BLK with complete uppers from PSA, then decided to go for a higher-quality complete rifle build. Ended up choosing a BCM upper, charging handle and hand guard, Spikes BCG, Faxon Gunner barrel in .223 Wylde, and finally splurged for some good optics. It seems like a nice, relatively light build, can't wait to go try it out. It's been a lot of fun learning how these things work and are put together.

Going to thread the barrel for a break. Can’t use suppressors here without tax stamp. Not sure what break I’m going to with yet.
I threaded my 22-250 bolt gun and can watch hits threw the scope.

Thinking about getting my spikes upper cut down to 11.5” it would only be $75 to get it cut, crowned and threaded but it gets expensive if I go with a JP adjustable gasblock/a2 sight. Cheapest I have found for the JP is $136. Is it worth it to modify this upper or should I just get a BCM upper?

    Welcome to the addiction!
Turn it in to a rifle, and build a dedicated pistol. In the AR space, I don't pay for barrel re work.

I have that exact upper. With handloads it is consistently 0.5 MOA, really like 55gr V-Max and H335 powder.
It's an extremely heavy setup, really only a bench gun. But insanely accurate for a semi-auto platform, my most accurate AR.

Another option is a service rifle/upper, as the modern match ready service rifles are nearly indistinguishable from varmint guns other than that they are usually threaded from the factory. I can vouch for White Oak Armament in this space for being affordable and highly accurate, I shot an appleseed with a guy who put an 3/4 inch 10 round group together at 100 with one off a bench, and regularly put 1/4 to 1/2 inch 3 round groups together. I plan to pick one up myself for Appleseed, Highpower, and Varmint shooting.
