    Very nice pair of rifles Packerfan! I can't get a shorty here in CA but I've got a few nice carbines set up anyway. My new project is an AR10 built on a J.D. Machine PR3 lower (I've found these to be some of the nicest AR10 lowers on the market) but it'll be a slow build because I'm still paying for my truck. :eek:

    I prefer to piece mine together myself, but for anyone not that interested or experienced I'd look at Colt, Rock River Arms, LWRC, etc... there are dozens of companies making good rifles, but those three are all top notch. Beware you pay extra for the prancing pony on the side of a Colt though. Brand recognition. :rolleyes:

    You get more than the Pony for the price of a Colt. ;) Colt, Noveske, LMT and CD are the best quality DI ARs you can buy.:cool: LWRC is the best quality piston or DI AR built.
    I'd love an AR10 but I don't think it's in the cards though. How much did your lower set you back.

    I looked at one of these at a Dicks Sporting Goods store and was not impressed. The pattern was just painted on after it was anodized and was already coming off from light handling. If they could improve the way they put the graphics on I would be all over that like white on rice ;)

    A lot of the AR platforms are pretty similar. Most meet MilSpec, so it depends on your budget and shooting habits. I think most of the big names should keep you pretty happy. Good luck. Shoot a few rounds for me, since here in Cali, I cant own one without some backdoor loophole. Happy shooting!!

    One stripped lower that is NOT listed as banned.
    Lower parts kit with Special CA Mag release.
    Upper of your choice. 10 round mags.
    Some assembly required

    Go shoot.

    The Special CA Mag release requires a tool to remove the magazine. This makes it a "fixed" magazine rifle which does not fall into the "Assault Weapon" category. The "tool" needed to release the mag is the tip of a bullet.

    Trust me, I know ALLLLLL about the way around owning an AR in Cali. Heres the problem I have. These are all interpretations of the law. I know that people argue about off list lowers, bullet buttons, and all the tricks, but it's still not written in stone. I wouldnt want to risk all my guns, just so I can own an AR. The hassels that can come with trying to find loopholes in the law can sometimes just be too much of a headache. Especially when it involves an " Assault rifle". Now were talking a felony. As much as I would love to own an AR, I cant justify the risk. The politicians are so anti gun here that they look for any excuse to mess with gun owners. Unless I can find a retail store that has one on the shelf, I dont want to risk it.

    Maybe. But I'd like to see some examples of a LMT or Colt bolt breaking in half. I've never heard of it.
