I know there is an AR15 thread and a lot of these parts are the same, but I wanted to see a thread just about the AR15 "Big Brother" since I'm about to go down that rabbit hole

I'm a huge Aero Precision fan, so I went with their M5 lower. I will run a M5E1 enhanced upper/rail, Elftmann trigger/A.S.S. safety. All other things are up in the air.

    Here's the begining

I have 3, .308 AR’s, 2 I built using Aero stuff, can’t go wrong with Aero Precision equipment. I love putting together adult legos, then shooting the end results. Keep us posted, nice.

This one will take me a while. I am pretty sure I want to go 308, but 6.5 Creedmoor is looming in my mind  The only problem is availability of ammo. I haven't looked for the 6.5, but I can imagine it's like the 220gr 300BLK and hard to find(if at all). Then I've got optics to read up on. That's a whole can of worms that will probably drive me insane
I'm pretty sure for the first one, 308 would be my best bet.

I believe you should rephrase that though unless you’re in to that but I’m sorry to disappoint

I love the FDE, but I just can't bring myself to try it.........although I did just buy a 19x 3 days ago

Did you paint/alumahyde/etc that? I don't know if I've ever seen a FDE buffer tube, CH, end plate/nut, or safety.

6.5 is out there and match grade cost about the same as .308 match grade factory ammo the big difference is there are not many less expensive 6.5 fmj options unlike 7.62x51 where you can still occasionally find 147 grain fmj for $1 per round or less

I'm thinking my first one would be best in 308. Then I could always just build a 6.5 upper. I'm by no means a precision shooter, I just got caught up in the $199 BF sale

Yeah that's where I was. I have a 6.5 bolt action but It is too big and heavy to lug around in SHTF scenarios. So I built the .308 gasser as a SHTF DMR style build on the principles of more effective range and energy than 5.56 .308 7.62x51 more likely to be found/scavaged than 6.5.. I can always add 6.5 upper later if wanted. In non shtf scenario it's a good 300-800 yard plinker and less $per round than 6.5 unless I'm feeding it match grade.
