I have a love hate relation with this one, slings lead awesome! But..heres the ...short version i sighted in rifle was dead on....take it first time officially elk hunting, riding around to a good spot to park atv, sneak attack. Roll up on a massive elk. Rifle Wasnt charged, charge it bull takes off. Almost have a clear shot then brush no shot, couple times. Its gone no way to catch up or get a good shot where it was. Head back to atv, cow pops up, (i have either or tag). I take a head shot at cow at about 30yds max, cow looks at me like...."how dare you" she takes off...im pissed by now. Almost threw rifle in the woods...go home check rifle, 30" low at 25yds...wtf!! Start checking stuff, scope mount base came loose about to fall off:facepalm:couple days later redeemed myself with my trusty 270...popped a cow 250yds.:anonymous:

Yep that could be extremely frustrating. Give it another go. My Browning A bolt 308 is my favorite rifle. I missed one this year first one I’ve ever missed with that gun I have no idea what happened. While looking for that one another jumped up 75 yards off hand it only ran 30 yards . I’m going in the morning if that’s miss again I’ll have to check sights when guess still love the gun though it shoots way better than I do

I've been debating this heavily for a while now, if anything out of basic necessity, but fuckin' A if it doesn't bore me to absolute tears. I would almost rather watch paint dry.

I understand. When I first got into reloading I loved it, being able to get ammo tuned to each rifle it was addictive, after 4-5 years though that kind of wore off. But now after 14 years I've got powder and primers, brass, bullets stockpile for damn near everything. I say least quantity is 100 pieces of 6.5 brass, that being more recent.
It's crazy the shortage of components right now! And even some of the chain stores are jacking prices....primers few years ago were $34 per thousand. Was at Scheels the other day they were $100.00 and sold out!
I felt lucky to find that brass decent price locally.
It seem weird because ammo shortage in the past never affected components really. Now I'm thinking changes out West Coast, and general shortage that many are taking up reloading :notsure:

What a messed up day. Went hunting this morning and killed a small 7 point. 90 yard off hand shot went perfect I was tickled.

got home and parked the truck. As I walked away I heard a pop and the truck started rolling. I ran around it and tried resetting the parking brake as as soon as my hand hit the brake it hit a tree. Bumper is toast and some of the supports behind it even dented the hood

then I go to town looking for a tool and come out to find my battery is dead. That’s enough for this day.
Sorry I know not gun related but had to vent

it’ll all work out. I’ll throw the stock bumper back on for a while I’ll have to replace some of the braces first though and tweak a few things

The one thing I recommend on building an AR308, and it may have been mentioned already, but I try to use the same brand of upper and lower receivers. Aero is excellent, great bang for the buck. There are two rail heights for uppers in common usage, and the Aero is high rail, so if you go the free float handguard route, make sure your handguard rail is the same height.
Do not mix Armalite pattern and DPMS pattern parts, although there's few companies that still use the Armalite pattern format. There's also SR25 pattern, but that mainly has to do with the upper and lower receivers, see above for my recommendation. I wish a company would make a clamshell upper receiver vise block like the AR15s have, those are handy.

My hunting build is a budget one, Aero upper and lower, but I went cheap on everything else, Radical Firearms barrel and $25 adjustable gas block, UTG thin fore-end, Aim Surplus BCG. It's a laser. I just took a deer for filling the fridge this past Friday, with the buck's head down and quartered away and to the right, I aimed between his jawbones, and it went right where I aimed and out his left eye. I've taken at least 10 deer with it the last 5-6 seasons, it's a better shooter than I am.
