Well the MRD is not quiet. At all.
The silencer quiets it a little bit (not much) and, I believe, works as a spark arrestor depending on requirements where you ride.
There is nothing better or even equal for power though.
If quiet was a concern for me I'd probably just stay stock.
I feel like anything else would be trading some volume for little power gain.

    FMF q4 is being considered
Yoshi Aluminum RS2 is being considered

I'm not suffering hearing loss for power. And i must have a spark arrestor, that is non negotiable

I try to leave the neighborhood at low rpm :D

That said, i think the sound of the harley exhaust carries further unless the drz is really wound up.

Loud and proud is the way to be on the street. I just refuse to be one of "those guys" who rides with ear plugs.

In my opinion, most harleys sound way worse and are far more loud/obnoxious

I may or may not :anonymous:
Riding with ear plugs isnt that bad. I rode with them when i was in branson. 500 miles and you could use them. Really any long duration and ill try to wear them.

Yeah, go ahead and drop some HotCams in while you're there. The MRD wasn't around when I dropped crazy money for a Yoshi TRC Ti. Dunno they are more or less identical, the Yoshi is a bit lighter.

From what i've read, that titanium yoshi is the only thing that even comes close to the MRD....and its considerably lighter.

At this point, i'd be happy to break 40hp

Oh yeah. forgot the cams. gotta have big bore, cams and carb.
You're not going to do that with a pipe alone I don't think.
Yosh can is good. I think it's the head pipe on the MRD that makes all the difference. The thing is big and you have to maneuver it just right to get it on there.

I understand i won't get it from any one item. Gotta marry things together. :)

As for the bigbore, i'm doubtful i'd even do it. Its just on the eventual "maybe" list.

And don't forget to have fun with the thing!

I used to have an S

I still have my SM and it's my favorite bike of several.
Closest thing to a do-it-all bike there is IMO

DRZ with the MRD,39FCR, big bore and hot cams will do 48+ hp to the rear wheel. mine dyno'd 48.83 to the rear wheel and was loads of fun. MRD is loud even with the insert and is ear bleeding loud without. LOL I miss mine just got rid of it. To many crazy people on the road anymore.

Looks good Dan. Did you split your base gasket to up compression? Thumper Talk is your friend, Eddie Sinerceros (sp) is the DRZ God. He built my head when I upgraded mine. I've ridden all sorts of bikes on and off road and this is prolly the most fun of all them. I still like to blast the woods, but have a different mount for that purpose.

Nah pipe and carb are needed for 40. Heres some dynos from eddie himself. The stroker build is sick!

Ideally, i'd like to jet, 3x3, new air filter, and exhaust. Then later get the 39mm FCR kit from Thumpertalk.

But the more pertinent issue is finding tires that work for me.

Nice bike. I use to work at a Suzuki dealership over 5 years ago. I've ridden every bike they produce. I love the DRZ-400. I'd trade my RMZ in for a DRZ if I wasn't afraid of getting ran over by all the crazy drivers around here. I also found the DRZ-400 pretty gutless compared to my RMZ-450. I guess that has a lot to do with the differences in gearing.
