A guy about an hour and ten from me was selling a set of 2016 trail wheels which are the grey ones, wantsd $400 for just the wheels and center caps. I messaged him and told him basically i wouldn’t pay $400 for his wheels with no lugs and no TPMS. Partly because i need the lugs, also because i could sell the TPMS to someone local that needs them, and i don’t want to drive that far for full price on only partial fulfillment of my needs. So those are out. They sell dumb fast around here and none are close to me. So the search continues. I don’t want to go aftermarket but there is a cheap set of new in box level 8 MK6s relatively local. But i’d still have to buy lugs and they are grey, i’d prefer bronze

 

I have 5 Trail Wheels with 5 Cooper STT Pro's on them. Thinking of going back to the Bronze Faux Beadlock

Spent about 6 hours cuting out, scabbing and plating the frame last night. We just about have it whipped. Its a lot of work but i’m very pleased with how its tightening up.

Next step is undeecoating. Lots of it.

 

Looped the rear heater core lines to themselves since they were leaking so bad.






Looped the lines to themselves under the truck too. Seems to be a viable sollution for now.

Also changed the trans fluid and did the rear diff last night. So all that is left to do is the brake and clutch fluids. Both of which are as black as the paint on this thing

Going to start cleaning and descaling the frame tomorrow. Ordered a quart of POR 15 to coat the frame on this pig.

 

Good shit, Sounds like a fun project bringing the girl back to life. POR15 is good stuff, I've used it many times and in my experience the best way to apply it is using a small trim roller from home depo and apply 5 or 6 light coats letting it get tacky in between coats.

My luck is pretty terrible sometimes

Found a set of 4runner TRD OR wheels on ebay this morning. They had 3 miles on them and were off a 2019. Everything looked right. Said in two different places that they would ship for free. Also said local pick up was an option. So i didn’t think much of it, paypal and ebay both have buyers protection, what the hell.

Ordered them and then i thought, maybe i should check over those order details again. Sure enough, the shipping field is now void, and it says local pick up only. Naturally I cancelled it. But its a two person cancelation system, so i have to cancel it and they have to cancel it too. What a mess. Plus there is a holiday this weekend to delay things even longer.

I hope this gets resolved smoothly. This is why i prefer to buy things like wheels locally.

 

Ouch that sucks, I had that happen one time and they suspended the person's account and I got my money right back.

Thats what i’m trying to acomplish but its a holoday weekend so $400 of nine is now tied up

 

Today i descaled the frame with wire brushes, removed the old sawed off power steering lines, fixed the fan shroud, and test fitted my mom’s wheels/tires.

 

Today I swapped in the rest of the LED interior lights and got them all working. Degreased the skid plates with purple power.

I should be getting the rest of my engine parts this week.

The plan is to do the oil change, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and intake gaskets all at once. Then degrease the under side of the truck completely.

I’m also ordering all new rear suspension and trailing arm bushings. Also new CV boots to replace the leaky ones up front on the insides.

Also chasing down about 10 leads on wheels and shopping for tires still...

Had the same truck. Ended up getting a lot of frame rot. Sold it to a guy who traded it for a Harley. No idea where it is now. Watch out for rot in the rear of the frame and around the rear control arms.

Great rig though. Very comfy and capable.
