Light bar finally wired up, no fire this time

 

Couldn’t fix the air box lid.


So i fixed the air box lid.

 

Now it looks like a teenager owns it:

 

just did an oil change at 232,000 miles. So i officially have put about 2k on this thing.

Oil was nasty, which i expected from all the cleaners i have been running through it. Which is also why i changed it at 2k instead of 3k.

Everything else seems fine except for i now have an oil leak up front that I did not have before. Cant tell if its oil cooler lines, clogged front diff breather, driver's side axle seal, or what. Its a considerable amount but nothing seems low (i still need top check the front diff to be sure...)

Its interesting to say the least.

I think my favorite part is telling people i wanted a reliable daily driver, so i bought a 20 year old 230k mile 4x4 toyota

I’m pretty open about the problems it has and my concerns for it.
If i keep it, it needs brakes all the way around, because the drums are warped from it being parked with the brake set for months on end, through years of freezing and thawing.
The passenger side front caliper drags a little, considerable amount more brake dust on it than there is on any other wheel.

Front diff still leaks from the breather a high way speed.

P0420 code comes back about 4-5 times a week. I am convinced the timing must be off by one tooth on the belt, because i have eliminated literally every other possibility.

Coincidentally it also will need a timing belt, waterpump and all the fixin’s around 7k miles from now.

I also worry about the original clutch, TOB, rear main seal, and clutch master....

The pinion seal used to leak...but seems to have stopped...

 

I feel ya on all of that! I did the timing belt on mine about 280K so that’s good for a while. Lost the rear main seal a couple years ago doing 80 on the highway. Saw the smoke, pulled it over immediately and it puked oil all over the shoulder. Saved the motor though, no damage. Just did brakes all around this summer, rear shocks and front sway bar links. Also did all fluids, spark plugs, wires, coil packs and MAF this past spring. I get that same code about once a year. Pretty sure I have a small leak between the two cats, because it drops condensation from that area when it’s cold. I haven’t really dug into it because it still passes emissions with flying colors. I just reset the code. Mines pushing 320K, and despite all the little crap, it fires up and runs like a top everyday! I love my 3rd gen runner and will fix it forever! I’ll throw a pic out because why not,

Don’t know why that second pic attached? That was the night I had to replace the driver’s side door. GF opened her door on a busy street and a guy pulling a fifth wheel clipped it, ripped it out of her hand, and pretty much ripped it off the truck. She was ok, thankfully! If you look real close in that attachment you can see the damage to the fender. Junkyard luckily had a matching door, but not the fender. Sad day! Sorry to clog the thread!

Installed a URD rear O2 similtator and it competely solved my check engine light issue for good. Thank God.

Also happy to report my 16-17mpg now instead of 12-14
