sorry.. so many threads on this subject but none that get my truck. My 2015 TDR Sport is about to get ARB airlockers. I'd love to regear at this time, better gas mileage, stronger 4*4..? Tire size is 305/70/18 with a 6' lift.

What's the strongest, best ratio for what I'm doing? Thanks so much.

If you're running 33s you want 4.10, and for 35s you want 4.56. It's been posted a million times.

    You don't have to regear.

However since the labour to do both a full locker and re gear is one in the same its recommended to have all the work done at the same time to save on high labour costs than to do it twice. No one likes paying to have things done twice right? let alone pay for it $$$

That said, you dont need to regar on 33' but it's recommended to go 4.10s / 4.11

If you ever go to a larger tire -- say 35s then you will be happier at 4.56 gear.

These two ratios with these tire sizes will keep the engine RPMs close to stock.

4.30 would be a compromise between the two. I'm not sure if this ratio is available for the taco. I will look...

EDIT: Randy's does offer a 4.30 Ring and Pinion on a rear end with 10 ring gear bolts.

You also have the option of going to 4.88, but I feel that would be gear too low to be of any benefit for a rig that is driven on the pavement. Due to only having a 8 " rear gear, pinion is going to be tiny. The ring teeth are going to be much thinner and thinner gears generally mean less strength.

My opinion, is 4.88 is too much gear for our trucks -- but that's me.

I would absolutely re-gear with 33's. Hell,I want 4.10's with 265-75-16s. Buy once cry once.

Buddy runs 285/75R16's full armor, super charger and auto trans, regeared to 4.56's and while he runs slightly higher rpms, he gained back ~ 1.5-2mpg as well as the giddy up.

regear for sure... 6 in lift and those big ole tires 4.56's at a minimum without a doubt. 4.88's IMO would probably be better depending on how much highway driving you do.
