the foundation is being laid soon as of right now we are going through all of the crap before building zoning surveying water table testing and extending the utilities.

lol the log connection in bc canada is doing the work for me a full dry in of the montara model on their site it's gonna be a nice little house. i'm acting as my own gc so it's gonna be a suck fest to say the least.

although when i think about it my house will be completed before your bumper will installed lolz

nah they do timber frames and hand scribed log homes. we are still debating on which way to go their floor plans can be constructed either way. their scribed log homes are 16 to 14 to 18 inch mean diameter hand peeled shits they have the best wood right in their back yard doug fir inglemen spruce.

the true timber frames are just amazing inside though double hammer truss and reclaimed t&g and flooring wood and stone is more my speed my wife however like the log houses which seems like to much work lol to be honest screw jack's and all so we are undecided at the moment.

she was given a plot of land right at the base of a mountain in ct. so we have a chance to build something really nice on the smaller side but premium everywhere!

that would be more post and beam with timber accents right? from what i understand the way timber frames are being built these day's with the sip panels they are very efficient homes.

the large diameter logs are a great natural insulator but fall short of the r value of a well constructed timber frame. either one is going to be nice and a literal dream come true for me and the wife.

Timber frame and SIPs is the way to go . Very efficient from a heating / cooling standpoint .

Log homes are a pain in the ass to run services ( electrical / plumbing ) in .

we are going with a full basement so the bottom floor is taken care of at least lol we are going with warm board for heat and central air for ac. reflective roof panels and the low profile solar panels somewhere we are trying to keep the dependency as low as possible while still having a nice comfy set-up.

i looked into the hassle of plumbing and electrical and it does seem very strange in a full log home to get things where they need to be. lol women want what they want though she makes the decisions and i have to make it work lol either way there will be pictures soon enough either way we go.

O am a designer/ builder in Montana. Dont go log. The first 5 years you will have an inch of flies everywhere. Nothing can be done about it. LOgs have nowhere near the Insulation value they claim. Timber frames are very nice and yes, with sips (structural insulate panel system) you will have a VERY efficient home from the standpoint of heat retention in the winter and cool in the summer. I have built many sips homes and each owner LOVES them. SIps go up very quickly. Less Labor cost by a long shot
