I hear you. Here's to good factory antenna's haha. I'm sticking with the textured finish. Like you I anticipate finishing some sliders that way. Also saw a truck that the guy sprayed bedliner on the lower rocker panels and front/bottom of hood. I might copy that, thought it looked kind of neat. Yes, grip is good. I really appreciate you guys. Nice to have a place to talk toyota.

I had the same thought this morning, just spray/patch and all good. This truck is no show truck, it will be used. Here in NM the air is so dry we are lucky in that way. I appreciate you guys and happy to have this forum.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've put this purchase on the back-burner as I decided to buy new coil-overs first. I currently have some pretty tired ones and I don't believe the coils are rated for the additional weight that would be put on the front with the new bumper... and a winch should I eventually go down that route.

Doing that has definitely given me more time to think about which one I'll get and I think I'm leaning back towards the painted version (surface repair and maintenance sounds like it will be easier from what I've read in this thread so far).

Toying with the idea of painting it like a "gun-metal" grey to help avoid turning my already black Tacoma with black wheels into an even bigger black blob.

Maybe something like this, but slightly darker...

Right on, and yeah I hear you about the added weight. The seller of the bumper says 'no need to upgrade suspension' but the added 165 lbs surely will drop the front end a bit as many have mentioned. I'll measure before and after install. I also hear you about the finish, it may be easier to spot paint the non-textured. I went w/textured, I think I may put on an ARB roof rack, apparently they are only doing the textured finish on all of their new products.
also, going to buy some rock-sliders, and will most likely put a textured finish on them, important for grip.
What coil-covers did you go with? I'll need to upgrade. Going to probably buy a front skid plate and then onto suspension.
The pic. is sweet of the gun-metal. I think I've seen your black truck, nice ride!

165 lbs? That can't be right. Perhaps total shipped/freight weight?
I feel like I've lurked on other ARB threads on here for the 1st Gen's and a lot of guys are finding their bumpers to be around 80 lbs. Even still, I think your seller is over-looking weight distribution in relation to upgrading the suspension. You won't notice a difference with 80lbs behind your front tires, but ahead of them? Your front suspension will be doing all the work.

Did not know ARB made roof racks for our Tacomas! Am I reading that right?!
I splurged a bit on the front coilovers and bought the Bilstein with AllPro Coils (650 lbs rating) from Wheeler's. Ordered this past Sunday - getting here tomorrow! :spending:

I'm the 3rd owner of the truck. The original owner had the same coilovers installed but with their lighter rated coils (I think 550 lbs?). They're pretty beat up now and look plenty old, but I'm still pleased with how they've held up and handled.

Skid plate is also on the list for me. LOL sorry wallet. I'm looking at Coastal Offroad since they're local for me. :D Might see if they can just sell me the back half of their kit so I can keep using the OEM front skid and save some money.

Is that right? You up here in good ol' British Columbia? :canada:

The weight listed for the ARB bumper includes the pallet it's shipped on, packaging, etc.

I think I saw your black truck in a thread. I'm in New Mexico. Right on about the coilovers, good on you! And yes, I think I'm surmising the bumpers freight weight is 165lbs. Saw on You tube yesterday it might include a skid plate? IDK what's going on. Just got a call from the shipper, could come today. My neighbor and I are going to put it on. Thank god for good neighbors, I don't have a garage/shop to work in. Good luck with the skid's. Thank you for the info. on the coilovers, notes taken. And I hear you about the front suspension doing that work up front w/added weight. I'm not 100% about ARB roof racks as per 1st Gen's. I kind of hope so. But I think other makers will also have a textured finish option. I've gotta check out Coastal Offrd. Not much local to me, in the mid of nowhere, lol.

    Thanks buddy!

Excited to see how the bumper install goes! Send us some Before/After pics!

Quite jealous of the condition your truck is in. That frame looks to be in really good shape. You guys are spoiled with how vehicles age down there. :D

LOL not quite yet. Had to prioritize my available funds towards new front suspension to handle the bumper first.

Plus my auto insurance is due to be renewed in a couple weeks (I pay annually). So, I figured I'd wait until after the dust has settled on those expenses to see what I have left to play with!

I will, take some pic's, some measurements. My neighbor is an auto mechanic with a shop about 30x50'. And he welds! haha. I messa round w/a mig welder, but an not a pro by any means. Vehicles here can last a long time, hardly any humidity in the air, especially this year. Be in touch.

My truck is humble, simple, and old, but I'm glad that you like it. Used 16" x 7" 4 Runner wheels and new tires are coming soon.

It's a 1999 5 speed manual, SR5 package, OEM 15" steel rims (currently has OEM 15" aluminum alloy wheels), extended cab, no E-locker, no power windows/doors/mirrors, or sunroof.
