ARB Compressor install - Will this be a problem?

    Hi all,

I’m installing a dual compressor in the engine bay in the space where people often install a second battery. You know the spot. Anyhow, the CBI mount that I am using seems to push the compressor up against the main wiring harness that goes through the firewall right there. (See pics).

Does this compressor get really hot during use? Do you think the harness will be okay right up against the compressor like this?

    Thanks

I would find a way to secure the wires out of the way. I wouldn't want that much heat against the wires.

It will get quite warm, I agree that securing the harness back out of the way would be the safest bet to prevent any melting or damage.

Also not a fan of mixing vibes with wires.

I'd try and figure something out.

Thanks Gents. Moving this harness could be difficult. It's rather formidable. Hmm. I'll uninstall the compressor and see what I can do.

    I hadn't thought about vibrations. I agree. I don't like that either.

You could also mount it in the bed cubby on the left. There's a mount plate you can buy for it. You'd have to run longer wiring, but it would be isolated from everything else. Just another option.

I've also heard of a guy who drilled some holes and mounted the twin on top of his fuse box cover lol, don't know how that would last though, as it's mounted to plastic and not metal, but just another option for you.

I'm planning to add a Four Wheel Camper at some point, so bedside cubby will be no go for me.

If I can't muscle this harness suitably out of the way, I'll likely end up paying someone to modify this bracket to move the compressor away from the firewall a bit. I do really like this install location, I just wish this bracket was plug-and-play for a 2018 Taco. It's almost as if this wiring harness wasn't in the truck that cbi used to develop the mount. I'll probably give them a shout to let them know of the issue.

My backup, backup plan is to use a mounting bracket I bought that will mount it between the radiator and grill. I had hoped to use this spot for something else, but it may need to happen otherwise.

    Whole lotta stuff
In your case, I'd just try to isolate the compressor in the place you have it. Might be a little modification to how that wiring harness mounts but a few zip-ties and some bending will go a long way. The location you have is great, on the passenger side (prevents taco lean) and at the top of the engine bay.

There are several other engine mount options. Slee Offroad makes a mount for that spot or you can use the 2nd Gen mount with modification.

Mole Overland also makes a nice engine mount that goes in front of the radiator.

Yep, I do have options. I'm just hoping to get this one to work.

Also, thanks for mentioning Mole Overland - that is the other bracket that I have on hand and might go that route if I need to. I was just in another thread trying to tell someone who made it.

@TWTaco has a pretty slick setup with his ARB twin compressor.

How’s this mount working out? Going back and forth between this one and Slee.

Ordered the Rago, looks like a great mount and I'm absolutely certain I won't be disappointed, but I have a touch of buyers remorse I didn't go with this one simply because of the huge empty space on that side of the engine bay.

We'll see. In a year if I haven't worked up to installing a second battery, I may just move the ARB over.

I ended up going with the Slee Off-road mount, heard good things. Hope I like it.
