Hmm.. What time are you leaving HV on Saturday? I'm gonna show up a bit before noon, and would love to pick your brain about this. Did you use a local shop?

Also, if you are really trying to get some traction with this, recommend posting up on t4r.org. They have had a hell of a time trying to get an ARB group buy together.

I picked up a 10lb CO2 tank from Instant Air Supply to use for airing up my tires as well as tie into lockers when I get them (Tinky, just pm'd you back regarding lockers). Electric compressors are nice and I work with them at the power plant I operate (The Kaeser SK 15 screw compressor we have has ran nearly 24 hrs a day for 10 years with just routine maintenance - a fucking haus) . Vehicle compressors just have too many moving parts for my liking (solenoids, compressor motor, fuses - if you understand electricity you understand how fuses can be considered a moving part) to fully trust for years and years. If I was doing some over-landing for weeks at a time I would install one and it would definitely be ARB. However, a lot of things can go wrong in the middle of nowhere to rely only on an electric compressor and thus risking not having solid locker control and air to fill up when getting back to the road. Something as simple as a blown fuse and no spare can make for a long night stuck in a shit situation. Think redundancy.

And power tools. From blowing up dolls to using an impact wrench, if needed, the analog functionality of a tank is awesome.

Freezing and time-to-fill concerns? I saw a guy with a 10lb tank fill up 5 rigs (20 tires) in the time it took 1 guy with an electric compressor to fill up only his own 4 tires (I admit, he was using a Viair not ARB). That pushed me over the fence and sold me.

Portability: Disconnect it from your quick fists or mount of choice and it goes anywhere you're willing to carry it.

You CANNOT gauge how much CO2 is left in your tank, however. CO2 is a constant 150 psi whether it's full or just before empty because it's a liquid until right at discharge when it becomes a gas. You either weigh it with your wife's scale when it's empty and then again when full to have your gauge for the tank's level before taking off onto the trails; or have it filled to ensure you're good to go if you're unsure because dammit, you just don't get the chance to offroad enough. Damn shame...

Is 150 psi too high for ARB lockers? Nope. Here's an ARB write up on their lockers in correlation to pressures: https://arbusa.wordpress.com/2011/05/25/air-locker-pressures/

    Nop problemo.

I was a Navy steam engineer which demanded resilience out to sea in the middle of nowhere and that thinking transferred into my civilian life. I mitigate where I can to conserve space and weight but for most part I like back up.

Surely not trying to persuade people away from compressors. Just throwing some alternatives and back up plans into the Tacoma World. haha

So you use no solenoid then?

I don't have an electric compressor at all. I'm not so far out for longer than a week or so at a time so a 10lb CO2 tank is plenty. If I were to go way out for a couple weeks or more I would throw in an ARB compressor. However, a lot of the more serious overlanders do ditch the compressor solenoid and replace with air toggles.

How did you attach the blue arb hose to the tank?

That's not me. Just a photo I pulled from the internet. My bottle is satin gray.

It's not an ARB hose. It's a 15 ft braided polyurethane hose and a couple reusable 1/4" hose ends with strain relief. The ends are good for if you need to splice a damaged hose or can be removed and used to build a new hose.

It's then connected to a regulator and then the regulator is attached to the tank.
