My 2019 TacomaTRD ..rear diff air breather fail..damage my 3rd diff member..$4,100 replacement cost..due to water inside…Toyota mechanic mention something may have block the air valve open..I live on a coffee farm, it was a very muddy raining season this past year..lots of muddy water puddles too.. the mechanics where surprised to see everything so dirty & the dried mud under the whole undercarriage..lol

I just install the ARB diff breather kit…Super easy install came with everything you need, zip ties ,thread coated valve, self drilling screws, best to drill a small hole first, .can mount up to 4 separate tubing lines, with filter , very long tubing..can be mounted inside the engine bay or were ever you want too..
I mounted inside the driver side tail lights..up to the highest position possible..

ARB says it is a high flow, zero back pressure, zero vacuum breather, that will stay free of water…approx..$86.00 with shipping to Hawaii…

This should be a MOD for any water crossing, muddy trails, or water puddles on any roads..
Note the new Ford Rangers mount there’s higher then the Tacomas.. is Toyota going cheap?
    Aloha

Sorry to hear you had to go through that but sounds like you're getting it squared away and the right thing put in to prevent it in the future.

Lots of existing threads on here of folks (like myself) getting the Toyota/Lexus union and using 3/8 hose to extend the breather by the gas tank filler or into the rear driver tail light.

I don't think toyota is going cheap with the one way breather on the member as they've used it on several gens. I do think it has failed in salt belt, old age or as in your case dirty end. But until it fails, it works for most of the owners so why overengineer something. I believe Jeeps use a similar breather and there's a big mod community who extend it as well.

I bought a new fitting, a few feet of tubing and mounted the existing breather in the tail light.

To Smacky2020…I believe what you mention is true for most. My situation maybe different than most…as I drive ever single day in 4h or 4low ..just to get around, go home .., when it rains..the roads puddles..muddy everywhere..I live on the slopes of Hualalai mountain ..

Do I trust Toyota’s engineering? Nope..my rear air vent diff should have NOT fail…
Plus I am still having issues of rear brakes locking up..( twice to Toyota dealer to fix this problem) ..not solve yet…they re-adjust the brakes, grease/ lube certain parts of the braking system…still NOT solved?
If the brakes rear brakes lock-again , within a week or so... I be making another appointment…
    Thank you…

Amazing so many, many aftermarket parts ..just to improve the Tacoma ?

You can say the same for any popular vehicle. Jeep, Corvette; sounds like what you need is a mil standard Humvee.
