I have a 2018 with an ARB summit bar, and just picked up a Smittybilt X20 10k winch. Have any of you installed a winch in this bumper? Is it possible without pulling the whole bumper off?

Does the ARB bolt onto the 6 bolts on the frame beneath the radiator support? If so I believe you have to remove the entire bumper. Its something like 125 pounds if I'm not mistaken. After you add the winch that's gonna be one heave mother. You may need a buddy.

You could certainly add a winch to an ARB bumper after the fact on a 2nd gen. Its just a bit tricky. Bet you also can with the third gen

It looks like I can pull the skid plate and try and slide the winch up in there. I think I'll try that first and see how it goes.

I'd try that as well. Good luck to you.

Just some info actually might depend on which winch.

I know when I was emailing them as this is the bumper I want I was asking same thing because of the price of both winch and bumper etc.

They said you cannot do it but that was with a warn zeon winch, any warn supposedly requires a separate mounting system.

Now I don't know if that's what made it why you cannot do it with the bumper already on, or if it's just in general you can't do it.
Hence why I'm curious to hear outcome.

The winch body is in. I didn't pull the bumper. I'm still waiting on the fairlead adapter and I need to mount the control box somehow. I want it pretty low so it doesn't interfere with the Toyota safety sense, so I'm not sure the ARB adapter will work. I'll figure it out though.

I had to pull the ARB skid plate, and undo two bolts to the stock Toyota skid plate, and that was it. I lifted the winch up from the bottom and did the whole job by myself.

The hardest part was rotating the motor housing and getting the brushes back over the winding. But both housings line up well now. The ARB instructions say to clock the electrical connections so that they point up, but the Smittybilt winch has an alignment pin that prevents this. I made them point toward the rear of the car, but the lines are plenty long and will reach fine. The clutch handle is nice and accessible.

The top mounting bolts were a real PITA to get in. Glad you made it work though!

Oh yeah they are. They're really hard to start, especially with non-child sized hands. But once I had one or two threads in, they were fine. Just took a long time to tighten.
