ARB Twin Compressor Install Question

Hi all,

Got the ARB Twin Compressor installed under the hood of my 2023 OR. Only thing left to do is connect the red-yellow wire for the switch to the ignition. The switch is located under the hood next to the compressor. To anyone that has installed one.. Where did you connect that wire? I’m not too knowledgeable when it comes to car electrical. From what I understand I need to use a fuse tap and connect it inside the fuse box? Can I tap into one in the fuse box under the hood. Or do I need to go into the fuse box in the cab? Any specific fuse I should be using? Sorry and thx for any input!

I used the tap as suggested in the post and drilled a small hole, added a grommet, and ran the wire through that.

So you tapped into one of these fuses using this type of fuse tap? Any real difference between this type of fuse tap and the add-a-fuse style? Thx again

 

Yep! Technically these are relays and a little bit bulkier than a fuse so you'll have to bend tap a little to get around the body of the relay and a add-a-fuse won't fit either. I think I used the top relay "Batt Chg".

Also, link to the tap you have a pic of? the one I have basically adds thickness to the contact which I don't feel awesome about.

I just googled fuse taps.. That’s how much I know about auto electronics.. lol

I’m wondering if the cover will close with the connector on the tap? I haven’t opened it up yet so I’m not sure how much space is in there. Do you remember what size grommet you used? I think the wire is 16 gauge?

and I bought this grommet assortment and just figured out a size that fit the wire + heat shrink I had on it.

yeah no worries with the cover closing. I actually ran with the cover not fully secured for a while to run the wire out of but then decided to drill a hole for a grommet.

 

I see how those would add thickness. You think the type in the link I sent will get good contact? And are the contacts the same width as a fuse since as you mentioned they’re relays?

 

FYI.. Those taps didn’t fit the wider spade of the relays. I ended up going into the cab and using an add-a-fuse. I didn’t like the idea of making the connection thicker with the other style of taps. It was hard enough getting the relay out as it was.
