ARB vs Deer

cant believe yours moved. I hit 4 deer last april at 75 and mine didnt budge. cracked my foglight and knocked the housing out but no other damage to the front end.
i guess it couldve been worse for you.

I believe ARB made improvements on the 2nd gen bumpers and mounts. I've looked at the mounts on the 2nd gen compared to mine and they seemed to be more substantial. I am happy with how it performed though. I ordered my new bumper today. My body shop wanted to try and straighten it but I opted not to as I know the integrity is gone.

 

yeah i was thinking my mounts looked a little stouter than those. i cant remember how many but i know it had quiet a few heavy duty bolts holding it on tight too so it wouldnt flex. ether way theyre def worth the money! just imagine how bad it would have been to your truck had it not been on there.

That is some nice engineering in those bumpers. Exactly how I would design mine.

 

I would've preferred sticking the deer with an arrow. Oh well. It happens.

 

Those bars were designed for Kangaroos and Wallabies...a deer isn't far off so it looks like it definitely did the job. I would write to ARB as well and tell them the story..maybe you'll get some free stuff out of it. I think they have a section on their site for stories like that as well (like when their company F350 hit a moose at highway speed and was mostly fine).

I decided not to. I knew it would take a lot of clean up to salvage just some of the meat.

 

Update: I received my new bumper the other day and took some photos of the new and old mounts together. For those of you tuned in here you go.

 

My buddy has a shrockworks, he rear ended a chevy runnin 35 and it didnt do anything to his bumper or his toyota.

 

I believe shrockworks are more substantial than the ARB as the ARB is designed to allow airbag deployment.

 

Id rather have somethin that will do minimal damage to my truck.

op did your airbags go off? ive had people back into my frontend and hit numerous deer and mine never have..

 

So you bought a complete new bumper instead of mounts? Any idea what the mounts alone would cost?

 

No airbag deployment. The impact was mostly on the passenger side and I did have the passenger side airbag turned off.

 

I didn't price the mounts. I bought the old bumper at a great deal and my insurance gave me $ for a new one so I decided to just go with a new one.

 

Ok, after reading these responses, I think I’ll go for the bumper. I live in prime deer country, and I can’t change that, soooo. I hit one with my GMC Envoy, and it had 4500 in damages. I would hope the new bumper would pay for itself eventually. Thanks all.
