Finally sighted in my one pin. Question for you all since I have not been able to word my question right to search on the internet. What do I do if shooting under 20 yards? Is my 10 and under the same as 30 or what not? Is it just a practice and see type of thing?

need to verify for your setup but some say use your 30yd marker for 10yds. shoot using the 20yd at 10yds and 30 and see which is best.

From a treestand, I hold about 4 inches low under 10 yards. Works good for me but practice it first.

I like em close. I've shot 2 or 3 at 4 yards from a treestand. Thats a little too close. I held 2 in inches under their chest and hit them both high in the shoulder. Angling down like that, they dont go far but usually not much of a blood trail because the arrow almost never goes all the way through, so no exit hole.

Well finally think Im back to normal on my bow, I got the right tape and sighted in. I just need to practice more, Sept is right around the corner! Im Shooting out to 60yds, I dont know if I'd take a shot that far out or not, I guess it depends on how clear the shot looks.

I like practicing at longer distances. Makes those 20 and 30 yard shots seem like chip shots.

Are they hot in the summer? My TruBall can get there after a couple of rounds in the summer. It has a very thin strap too.

I never really gave it much thought. I guess it would be, but I guess it’s all relative because all of me is hot! But it’s not like a leather hot if that is what you’re asking.

Time for me to get a bow press. Just had my bow tuned and the peep is already twisting. This just reminds me even more, that I don't like having to rely on someone else to keep my equipment functioning.

I gotta learn to do this stuff myself. What's a good press? Not going to get very far on a compound without one.

The press is definitely a needed item when learning to do your own bows which is a great advantage over having someone else constantly do it. I will say,
most peeps that I’m aware of don’t need a bow press in order to put in/adjust or serve in.
This is the key tool you would use for the Peepsight. The little red tool on the left with the arrow at one end is what you used to separate your strings to put a peep him.

The 1st question you need to answer is, what bow do you have? because there are certain bow presses that are needed when you get in to these more swept back bow designs out today where they have an individual bottle jack like one you would use on a car built into it in order to deal with the super sweptback bow designs.

This is “big blue” This is the press I currently own . As you can see from the pictures how swept back of a design you can actually get in these styles of presses. The 1st is a Darnton 700 and the 2nd is a Matthews switchback, but the switchback I believe is the last Matthews bow that you can fit in this style of press. When they went to the Z bow, that’s when the new style press came on. That’s why my friend sold me “big blue” for only $300.
( The bows are just set in there for the photo)

The important thing to remember is it doesn’t have to be super complicated and expensive. The concept is basic, squeeze the bow to relax the string. But of course a well-built bow press is an advantage. IMO. Having rollers on the pressing portion of the press is definitely wanted to keep from damaging your limbs.
