Just found this thread. I'm a long time bow man. For the last few years, I've been hunting only with my custom longbow, and a ghillie suit.

I only have it set to 55lbs. I can pull it back fine sitting down. Its just the aggressiveness of how fast it lets down. When i let it down it seems like it wants to rip it out of my arms suddenly and my left shoulder (RH bow) takes a beating.

im now hitting bulls eyes, or within 2in every time i shoot at 20 yards. and within 5in at 40 yards. 40 yards is difficult but im getting better.

A 5" circle at 40 yards will do for hunting big game. although you should continue to practice 5" is not to shabby.

I made myself a kisser button yesterday out of thread, I'm going to try it out today and see if I shoot a little better.

    back to bone stock.
i pulled my bow out, blew the dust off of it, gave it a once over for safety..and flung some arrows.

at first it was like i was having an arrow "yard sale". then thing tightened up considerably, and i was risking arrow damage at 20 yards.

dont go changing things too much. let your body memorize the form and action..and then go tweaking things.

Been out of the game lately. Stuck with my 9 yr old Martin Bow, thats got a too short length and just too small for me now.

Looking at getting a new bow this year and have about $500 to spend. If you had $500 what would you buy? Im going to need EVERYTHING except a release. New arrows, sights, tips, the works.

Anybody point me in a good direction? I would love to get a Matthews, but i think its pretty unrealistic for $500.

hey Kris, check out the Rock^^ that Dylan posted. I think that would be a great option to consider! Diamond is a good line.

I bought my son the Diamond Razor Edge back in 2009 and it is a great bow. He will be able to shoot it for a long time considering how adjustable it is.

well if you can swing $599.00 you can get a bowtech assassin "brand new", in my humble opinion it is the best bow on the market for the money. it comes R.A.K "ready aim kill" sight, stabilizer, rest, quiver, sling the works other then arrows and a release.
the IBO is 333 so it has some speed and is well made.

if not that i would look at a used bow that a guy is selling as a package deal. i see good deals all day long on archery talk. good luck

you want a mathews? look at their MISSION lineup. essentially the same bows as two year old mathews. fantastic stuff!

Mission puts together complete setups. all you do is add arrows, and release. (additional $200 if you get good arrows and release)

Gander Mtn has that Diamond Rock for 299$ right now. Bare bow. Think i can get everything else and come out under 525$?

I already have a release, and stabilizer, i'll need arrows, field tips, new broadheads, sights, peep, quiver, silencers, rest. and thats probably about it.

I dont know which way to go. Just get the pre set up one from huntersfriend.com or get the bow and buy all the other stuff seperate from gander mtn.

the good thing about hunters friend is that they paper test it and tune everything for you. (they send you the paper that they shot through) but if you can save money and paper test it yourself i would go that way
