yeah we can get an extra tag...but have to pay $301! a little too high for an extra deer tag IMO.

 I don't know many people that like hunting swamps. It is usually a good spot if you don't want a bunch of people around.

What kind of terrain are you hunting? Do you have maps to find funnels and stuff? That’s what I do is just study the maps to figure out where they have to travel. Not all areas are like that, so it may not help but just a thought.

This section is thick. Some small stream action.
Some more open areas so going to explore lighter sections around the swampy areas

If you can find an S turn in the stream they generally cross before or after the S turn. Also, if you can find their beds and know where food is, getting between the food and beds is good. Also, during the rut if you can get close to where they bed the bucks will push the does around especially since you said it’s thick. They probably bed in the thicker stuff anyway.

Just got back from a weeklong hunt. 60+ different Muley does and fawn, 2 small spike bucks. Couldn’t locate the shooter bucks and I was having a rough time hiking the higher elevations 11k+ where they probably were. Looking like tag soup for me this year, might get a chance at redemption closing weekend.

    Lol
    Nice
I’m trying to do 20, 30, 40 yards on my first 3 shots. Can’t warm up so it’s all or nothing.

I can’t really do it too much this year because of where I live (yard is limited), but I sometimes will go out to 50 and 69 yards and practice a decent amount. Little mistakes will screw you up that far, but it makes 30 yards seem like a chip shot after shooting at 60. Lol.

Spend some time with online mapping programs/apps. There are a bunch that will allow you to overlay aerial photos with topography. Look for steep wooded pinch points. Hardwoods that border a swamp are great spots. Any place where there is an internal edge such as hardwoods and pines, timbered areas to thick stuff, draws that run perpendicular to the ridge (great travel routes), things like that. About 10-12 years ago, I started looking more for favorable terrain and such and less emphasis on sign, especially in big woods areas. One of my best spots, at first glance you would walk by. Not much sign, but it was two ravines that led out of a creek bottom with pines up to a small oak flat. Killed six deer there in four years.

yeah in the late 90's they had a severe winter and it killed a lot and I mean a lot of deer. I think thats one reason fish and game has only one deer per person and the second tag so expensive. There are good whitetail deer numbers now but still not like it used to be. The road we live on it wouldnt be rare to see 6-12 deer crossing the road at evening time now its maybe a few, crossing the road but overall numbers are good.

Trip to cabelas was good, thanks @LocoLocal for coming along and helping me not spend abunch of money on the first thing that looked good. Lots of info(too much) to process all at once. Hopefully will make it to the local bow shop and try some out.
Did get a Scott release that was "damaged" but had been repaired so it was just an open package.

Good buy man. That’s a start for sure. Let me know what you end up with or if you need someone to run to the bow shop with ya.
