If the deer are just wandering in you have time. give yourself time for your adrenaline to wear off abit and your heart rate to come back down. I get excited whether its a doe or buck. If I lose that adrenaline its time to quit! the other thing to add to the already great advice is to make sure you didnt bump your sight and its off. could be the bow could just be your adrenaline you need to make sure the bow is on, then you know you only have yourself to blame for the arrow not going where you wanted.

bow hunting is way different whether you are in a stand on the ground or in a tree. The animal is the same but Ive had a rifle shot less than 20yds and it wasnt quite the same as a bow shot. Bow is more primal I guess, and you cant fight your instinct!

From the stand I shot that doe yesterday I had practiced out to 35 yards during the summer so I knew 33 was doable for sure.

I actually missed a doe from my climber on Saturday evening because I hit a small limb or little branch I couldn’t see. The deer was starting to enter the thicker stuff and I rushed a bit looking back and missed.

I haven’t missed since 2012 but it keeps me honest! I should have either shot earlier or really paid more attention before letting it fly. The left to right was perfect but I saw it veer up when it hit the limb.

I didn’t get bummed because I knew my bow was on, where my pin was, and the distance. So I went back yesterday and sealed the deal. I am going back this evening so we will see!

Already a lot of good advice. Me? When a deer comes into range that I am going to shoot, I start to go thru my mental checklist. Which way is the deer heading? Is he/she alert? Makes a big difference. Are there other deer that may see me draw? When "go" time comes, it's draw, anchor, sight picture, squeeze, follow thru. Just like practice. Now here's the trick. It's OK to get the shakes. After the shot. Not before. By focusing on everything else, I can push the shakes back till after I release the arrow.

If my heart didn't start racing when I see deer, in range or not, I'd hang up my bow.

I've shot a whole bunch of deer with a bow and I still get a little "wobbly" when I think I'm going to get a shot. I love it!

Took a break from archery whitetail here in MI to head to NM for rifle elk hunt on public land. Amazing trip!

Are you hunting kind of the same area, or bouncing around? I think I bounce around too much

I try to use what I see when I'm on stand to help dictate my next moves. Also, the game camera at least gives you a little past insight as to what is going on when you are not around. Deer are sometimes predictable and other times anything but predictable. LOL! I am just hunting in a spot with shitty buck sightings this year. The rut can be a game changer that is for damn sure. I say keep bouncing around until you feel like you are in a high percentage area for sightings. If you are seeing the does consistently, eventually you will find the bucks.

It can be overwhelming. I have probably 50,000 acres of public within on hour or so drive. But I'm not complaining. Lots of times I climb a tree and wonder if I should be somewhere else.

Right now I’m just hunting my land plus 1 of my leases. I’ve been hunting my place mostly because of the amount of sign I’ve been seeing. I have more scrapes than I have ever had and the deer have been pounding all 3 of my food plots. I’ve also been checking cameras about every 3 days and have had a lot of buck traffic. My buddy and his son start vacation next week so I’ll be doing some hunting with them which will help let my place settle down.

I have 40 acres and lease 20 that borders me and I lease another 320 acre farm. My buddy and his son own 460 acres plus we have permission to hunt 4 or 5 other farms.

Sounds like you are set. I love the amount of public here but it really gets pressured now until end of gun season. It can work to an advantage but I sure wish I had it all to myself! I'm off Wed and Thurs this week20181030_115031.jpg
