20180818_140848.jpg I guess I'm one of the fools. Jk. Seriously though, I wish everyone could get over arguing over compound, recurve, crossbow, or gun. I see it everywhere and I don't get it. To each their own. We all have the love of hunting in common. I started bowhunting in '93 at 13 years old. That's all I've done since. When I can't draw a compound anymore I'll switch to a crossbow or gun. I'm not going to judge someone for hunting with a different method. I'd rather listen to their hunting stories and trade tips on how to become a better hunter. Lord knows I need all the advice I can get. I went on a drought for a few years. Just couldn't seal the deal.

Today, Sunday, I shot a deer with my crossbow, on a high fence ranch and I loved it.

    Just kidding.

But seriously guys. Y’all are stinking up this great archery thread. Please stop.

Unfortunately, colleges are also a part of the problem of young hunter recruitment. When I went to college 1975-1979 all that mattered for the most part were your grades......were you smart enough. Now it is more like how well rounded is the kid. By that I mean, how many extracurricular activities is the kid involved in? When my son and I visited Cornell (he had no realistic shot to get in) alot of the discussions revolved around the extras as opposed to just grades and advanced classes taken. Both my kids joined extra currs in high school for this reason only.....to 'pad' their resume!!! Guess what? They took evenings and weekends away from the kids. I don't knock the extra currs, but the reasoning is flawed.

    Sorry for the ramble again.

I deleted my last few posts. I don't feel like it had gotten to an argument, just hunters discussing their opinions. Either way, I hope everyone has a great 2019 season. And for those of you that are still hunting, best of luck.

I guess my point of view stems from our laws here in Washington. Crossbows are prohibited unless you have a disability hunting permit, and they are allowed during rifle season. Archery is also allowed during rifle season so long as you abide by rifle regulations and have a rifle tag. No hunting on Sundays is a thing? Is that due to religious reasons?

The Sunday deal ,I believe, was part of the old "Blue Laws" mentality that was in New England and probably other parts of the country.
When I was a kid, nothing was open on Sundays. Stores, nothing.

That started changing in the early 70's.
Booze sales on Sunday only started a few years back.
Regarding hunting, we've been asking for it for decades and they finally threw us a very limited bone a few years ago.
It's mostly a politics thing now. :frusty:

I have hunted Sundays for years in Ohio and killed a few bucks on a Sunday. I could live without it, having grown up in Pa. where that was illegal. BK (before kids) I would have used up all 5 weeks of vacation hunting -spring/fall turkey, archery, small game (mostly grouse) and deer gun/muzzle loader. Got my first spring gobbler on my honeymoon!

Oh, Ohio's archery season ends on February 3rd.

Thank you sir. The buck with the pond in the back ground was taken after we got it back to camp. That was the first week of September in Kentucky.
The other buck I killed at home in Missouri.
Hopefully it won't be another 12 years to get another buck.

Now that the season is over for me, I guess I will mope around the house on my off days and do lots of shed hunting pretty soon.
Who am I kidding, I'll prolly go shed hunting later this week. There is a shed hunting thread for anyone interested. If you find something, post it up. Enjoy!

One more thing. In my opinion, right now is the very best time of year to scout for next season. If you get a chance, take a walk in the woods. You never know what you might find.

Same in PA. The biggest road block to Sunday hunting in PA now is the PA Farm Bureau. There are two bills that are going to be introduced one in the PA House and one the PA senate to give the PA Game Commission the ability to regulate Sunday hunting. Right now the PGC is prohibited from allowing Sunday hunting.

Let us talk this out bud... Without having someone tell us to stop. That’s kind of silly.

Adult respectful debate is healthy to listen to different approaches to a subject and gain a better understanding of each other’s views.

Crossbows will remain controversial here and outside of this thread. Everyone is being fairly respectful and I really like seeing what others have to say about using one to hunt with.
